Technology and Leadership Conference

On Tuesday, the 22nd, the Technology and Leadership Conference was held, a technology management event designed to provide participants with new tools and foster a strategic business vision, with a focus on information technology.

During the event, various topics of interest to companies and professionals in the field were presented, such as:

  • Information Systems Strategy: A lecture by Dr. Helena Garbarino, academic coordinator and professor of Information Systems.
  • The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Business: presented by Eduardo Mangarelli, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay in Universidad ORT Uruguay.
  • Technology and Digitalization: A New Generation of Organizations, presented by Alejandro Bianchi, founder of Liveware Software Engineering.
  • The Role of Startups in Corporate Innovation: A lecture by Enrique Topolansky, MBA, Professor of Innovation and Business and Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
  • Cybersecurity Essentials: presented by Mateo Martínez, M.S. in Computer Security, CISSP. Instructor for the Specialization Diploma in Cybersecurity.
  • Technology Team Management: led by Eduardo Mangarelli, Engineer.

All the topics focused on providing participants with tools to enhance their analytical and decision-making skills.

During her presentation, Helena Garbarino highlighted the need to integrate technology into all business processes in order to generate new business opportunities, optimize practices, gain insight into customer habits and preferences, and mitigate risks.

In the second presentation, Mangarelli emphasized how the use of artificial intelligence could help businesses automate their operations, improve the accuracy of the data they handle, and analyze it in real time.

Later, during the presentation, Alejandro Bianchi, from Argentina, discussed six key concepts: Cooperation (within the ecosystem), Communication (among the various stakeholders), Integration, Technology, Culture, and Sustainability. He noted that the process of digital transformation can be driven by internal or external factors and can proceed slowly or quickly, depending on who is driving the change and how.

“Digital transformation is an irreversible process and represents a radical change within an organization. It creates a value proposition for its products and services,” said Bianchi.

For his part, Topolansky emphasized during his talk that “if you’re in the retail sector and you’re not a digital company, a startup could certainly replace you—or may have already done so. It’s important to realize that there are people disrupting your industry.”

Martínez’s talk on cybersecurity examined the international context and covered the most significant current risks, as well as the best techniques and tactics for mitigating them. “In cybersecurity, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s difficult to know who is behind an attack and that the attacker has unlimited has and resources to has ,” he concluded.

The closing remarks were delivered by Eduardo Mangarelli and focused on the importance of leadership and how to exercise it.

“Leadership is about inspiring and motivating people to work together as a team to achieve a shared vision.”

He mentioned seven pillars that require special focus and dedication in our day-to-day work: clarity of objectives; active communication about where we are headed as a team; adaptability—that is, understanding each employee’s unique qualities and maximizing their potential; acting as an enabler or facilitator of personal growth; consistency in decision-making and action; and creating an environment of open , and accountability for the commitments made.
