The Graduate School of the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences organized the country’s first course on the Economics of Water Resource Management from September 24 to 28 and from October 23 to 26, 2018.

The event was led by Dr. Tihomir Ancev, an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Sydney, and Dr. Francisco Rosas, a professor of Econometrics and Statistics at the university.

The course received financial support from the Center for Australian Studies and the Program for Engaging Overseas Scientists and Technologists of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), which funded Prof. Ancev’s visit, as well as from the SARAS Institute, which provided funding for the travel expenses of students from the interior of the country to Montevideo.

The goal was to introduce students to the economic aspects of water use and management so that they could incorporate these concepts into their analysis and decision-making processes.

A diverse group of students from academia, the business sector, and government participated in the activities, with backgrounds in economics, agronomy, engineering, and biology.
