The school joined PRME

In December 2017, the School of Management and Social Sciences became a member of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), the largest international organization linking the United Nations with higher education institutions in management disciplines.

PRME aims to ensure that business schools provide future leaders with the tools they need to strike a balance between economic and sustainability goals.

“PRME’s vision is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals through responsible management education,” the organization states on its website. “Our mission is to transform business and management education and develop the responsible leaders of tomorrow.”

Launched in 2007, it is a United Nations initiative that seeks to transform the curriculum, research, and learning methods in management education by incorporating and promoting the values of social responsibility.

PRME currently includes more than 650 academic institutions from 85 countries, including more than a third of the top 100 business schools according to the Financial Times ranking.

To become a member of PRME, institutions must commit to implementing the organization’s six principles:

  • Purpose: To develop students’ skills so that they can become future creators of sustainable value for businesses and society at large, and work toward an inclusive and sustainable economy.
  • Values: the integration of the value of social responsibility into academic activities and organizational practices.
  • Method: Creating an educational framework, materials, processes, and environments that enable effective learning experiences for future leaders.
  • Research: the generation of conceptual and empirical knowledge that advances our understanding of the role, dynamics, and impact of corporations in fostering social and environmental sustainability and economic value.
  • Partnership: Engaging with business leaders to raise awareness of challenges related to social and environmental responsibilities, and to explore approaches to addressing these challenges.
  • Dialogue: to facilitate and promote dialogue and discussion among educators, students, business leaders, government officials, consumers, the media, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders regarding critical issues related to social responsibility and sustainability.

PRME member organizations have access to a variety of platforms and projects that enable them to deepen their commitment to transforming education and advance their sustainable development goals.

PRME is governed by the PRME Steering Committee, which consists of the United Nations Global Compact and the leading business school accrediting bodies and specialized regional associations: AACSB, EFMD, AMBA, CEEMAN, AABS, CLADEA, ABIS, ACBSP, and GRLI.
