Magdalena Ripoll, who holds a degree in Biotechnology Engineering, has been accepted as a graduate student by the Scientific Council of the Chemistry Division of the Basic Sciences Development Program (PEDECIBA).

Ms. Ripoll is pursuing her graduate studies on the topic "Biotransformations of glycerol by immobilized strains of Gluconobacter" in the Biotechnology Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Lorena Betancor, a research professor in Biotechnology. Ms. Ripoll’s graduate thesis proposal was approved by the Faculty Council of the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Republic as a requirement for her admission to the PEDECIBA program.

The graduate received a master’s degree scholarship from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) in December 2017 to pursue her graduate studies. The research is being conducted as part of a project under the Energy Sector Fund led by Dr. Betancor, which is also funded by the ANII.
