On Wednesday, June 28, a ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Ministry of Education and Culture to present the resolutions and plaques for the 2022 ARCU-SUR accreditations of the degree programs that participated in that round of evaluations. The Systems Engineering program received accreditation under the December 2022 resolution.

The event was attended by Dr. Nora Szasz, associate dean for academic affairs; A/P Víctor Paulós, academic secretary of the School of Engineering; Mag. Cecilia Belletti, academic coordinator of the Systems Engineering program; and Dr. Gerardo Matturro, assistant academic coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Systems.

Dr. Cecilia Belletti spoke on behalf of the faculty, expressing her gratitude and highlighting the importance of this recognition for the program.

For us, it was a process of deep reflection that underscored our commitment to continuous improvement and academic excellence.

He also noted that it was an enriching experience, not only because of the “inward-looking” perspective but also because of the visit by the peer reviewers, their contributions, and their feedback.

As a graduate of the School of Engineering, she said she had been “a witness to the growth of the software industry in Uruguay and to the contributions made by professionals trained at Universidad ORT Uruguay.”

He also mentioned the training of professionals with a “solid foundation and a critical mindset, who seek to provide solutions through creativity and innovation.”

This accreditation is the first received by the Systems Engineering program, which has been offered since 1996, after voluntarily applying during the first accreditation cycle available for this program.

The process included the submission of a self-assessment report, a visit by a peer review committee in October, and the Commission’s final report.

In addition to the recognition, the faculty values the opportunity to participate in these forums, which provide a chance for analysis, reflection, and improvement of academic quality.

ARCU-SUR is a regional accreditation system for university degree programs, designed to ensure and promote the quality of undergraduate programs offered by institutions of higher education.
