ORTICC

The ORT International Case Competition (ORTICC) brought together nearly a hundred professionals from the region, including students, coaches, professors, case authors, and judges.

The 2021 edition, which was held online, took place from September 19 to 24.

The team consisting of Carlos Hatchondo, Nicole Halm, Gonzalo Rodríguez, and Alejandro Monetti—students in ORT’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program—won the competition.

The Innovative Dreamers Award—selected by the coaches of all the teams—was also presented to participants Estifer Baldera, Fernando Sierra, Carlos Piola, and Francina Corona, accompanied by coach Fernando Barrero from the Barna Management School in the Dominican Republic.

The objectives

The ORTICC competition aims to develop academic skills through a fun, interactive format in which students must meet deadlines, present their work to a panel of judges, and work on various case studies.

ORTICC also aims to expand these activities in the region, with this academic forum serving as a catalyst for the development of further skills in the future. On this occasion, of the eight teams that participated in the event, only two were from Uruguay.

The event aims to foster both academic and personal growth among participants. Academically, it focuses on applying traditional frameworks that enable students to understand, break down, and analyze complex, multi-variable situations in order to propose a solution.

The goal is to apply and reinforce the theories covered in the classroom. This helps students connect them to real-world problems from a consulting perspective, enabling them to propose coherent and practical solutions.

In terms of personal skills, teamwork, resilience, and focus stand out.

In addition to ORT, participants included the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), Barna Management School (BARNA), FIA – Fundação Instituto de Administração, and ESPAE Graduate School of Management.

In its most recent edition (2019), the ORT team that won the ORTICC competition went on to represent the university at the John Molson International Case Competition, reaching the semifinals among 48 competing schools.
