In the book Private Universities in Latin America: Research and Innovation in the Knowledge Economy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), which analyzes the impact of private universities on the growth and consolidation of higher education systems in the region, there is a chapter dedicated to the university’s biotechnology program, highlighting its commitment to a program that did not previously exist in the country.

Chapter 12, written by Enrique Martínez Larrechea and Adriana Chiancome and titled“Private University Strategies to Promote Knowledge Production, highlights the faculty’s efforts to contribute to an underdeveloped field.

“The recent launch of a biotechnology program is an example of a successful initiative to create the conditions for training human resources and generating practical knowledge.”

“The university decided to support a program that did not exist in the country at either the technical or university level,” the analysis states.

In addition, it highlights the support provided by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the key role played by its coordinator, Carlos Sanguinetti, in establishing the program. It also acknowledges the importance of the research conducted by the Protein Technologies group and the training of qualified professionals to participate in innovation and development activities within the field of biotechnology.
