Building Cities: Sustainable Futures. Leaving No One Behind

This event aims to serve as a forum for discussion and reflection on the practice of architecture and the role of architectsin a global context marked by the challenges of sustainability, social inclusion and the impacts of scientific and technological transformations.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) has called on colleagues from around the world to reflect on this professional context (World Congress in Copenhagen, July 2023) under a powerful motto that we wholeheartedly embrace:“Sustainable Futures. Leave No One Behind.”

In line with these“Sustainable Development Goals”(SDG 11/UN-Habitat) and the targets of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), the FPAA is promoting the “Sustainable Cities and Communities”campaign, with the aim of advancing urban planning and development policies that prioritize inclusion and sustainability.

The SAU hopes that this event will serve as an open forum for exchange and debate on the challenges and opportunities presented by our current and future landscape, as well as a platform for highlighting and recognizing meaningful professional practices carried out in our field across various sectors, specializations, and scales.

With a view to raising the conference’s national profile, the exhibition and awards ceremony for projects submitted to the Completed Works Competition (COR2023) and the National Meeting of SAU Departmental Commissions will take place as part of these events.

At the initiative of the Pan-American Federation of Architects' Associations (FPAA), a meeting of its Executive Committee and the first Pan-American Meeting of Architecture Biennials will be held as part of the Congress.

This designation will not only give this conference significant regional visibility but will also provide an exceptional opportunity for dialogue and exchange with leading figures in the field from across the continent.
