On February 10, Salão Design announced the winning products of its 23rd edition.
Lazo, the rack designed by the Sámago studio, won First Prize in the “Challenge in the Use of Panels” category in the Professional Division. In this edition, it is the only international project among the fourteen winners.
From March 16 to 19, an exhibition featuring the winning products will be held in Bento Gonçalves, Brazil, along with the contest awards ceremony.
Clarisa Bielawski holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and teaches Expressive Representation at the School of Design. She has been working at the Sámago design studio since 2017. She collaborated with Ernesto Fasano, Pablo Jaime, and Florencia Martínez on the design and development of Lazo.
As Bielawski explained, there are several types of panel materials.
When designing furniture with panels, they can greatly simplify the manufacturing process, but they can also limit design possibilities. With Lazo, the goal was to challenge the rigidity of the panels to achieve more organic shapes and a unique opening mechanism through flexibility.
"The material is HDF, a high-density fiberboard that is dyed throughout, which means the holes have the same finish as the surfaces," the designer explained. The design combines black Valchromat and beech wood.
As for the design, he described it as “simple, with continuous surfaces that give it a sense of fluidity.”
This piece of furniture is designed to be placed in any room, with no front or back panels. Its main features are flexibility and openness.
