i+D Diseño, the firm founded by Gonzalo Silva, a graduate with aBachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, and designer Nicolás Branca, won the Silver LAD Award in the branding category for its identity design for the 57th National Visual Arts Award.

i+D Diseño is a branding, communications, and design studio with over 20 years of experience. It has developed hundreds of projects, both locally and globally, for brands such as Uruguay Natural and Pedidos Ya. The firm combines a strategic approach with a creative and innovative mindset.

The studio developed the visual identity for the 57th edition of the National Visual Arts Award, including the catalog, videos, posters, and invitations.

The Latin American Design (LAD) Awards recognize the year's best design work. They are part of Latin American Design. The awards are open to creatives from agencies, design studios, and independent designers.

“We were interested in the jury’s profile; we thought it was strong and quite international. We had seen the previous awards ceremony and felt the entries were of a high standard, so we submitted our branding work. We were selected and then awarded in this category,” said Branca.

The jury for the branding category at the 2017 LAD Awards consisted of Natasha Jen, Iván García, Mario Eskenazi, Lucho Correa,Rejane Dal Bello, and Diego Fernández.

“We worked on typography treated as an image; the typography is distorted so that it creates a visual impression first, and only then do you begin to make out the letters,” Branca said. By deliberately sacrificing legibility, the image took precedence. He added: “It was an experiment. We’ve been working for years on this idea of creating pieces that are heavily based on typography. It’s an area that interests us.”

The awards ceremony took place at the Los Incas Auditorium, located at the Museo de la Nación in Lima, Peru. It was held on March 10, 2018, as part of the LADFEST Latin American Design Festival. “What’s interesting about the festival is that it attracted people from all over the world, including well-known figures and cutting-edge design firms,” Branca concluded.
