Universidad ORT Uruguay Waste Recycling in 2023

The university increased the amount of recycled waste in 2023, reaching 11.4 tons. This achievement reflects the commitment of the university community and the effectiveness of its environmental awareness campaign.

As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, Universidad ORT Uruguay a new record for waste recycling.

In 2023, the institution recycled 11.4 tons of materials, surpassing the figures from 2022, when nearly 10 tons were recycled, and from 2021, when a total of 8 tons were recycled.

This result is attributed to the active commitment of the university community and an ongoing environmental awareness campaign, which has led to greater involvement by students, faculty, and staff in the sorting and management of recyclable waste.

Materials recycled in 2023 included:

  • 8.7 tons of paper and cardboard, which were donated to the non-governmental organization REPAPEL, dedicated to promoting recycling and environmental education in Uruguay.
  • 0.72 tons of PET bottles and HDPE drums, managed by ECOPET, a company specializing in plastic recycling.
  • 2 tons of electronic waste (WEEE), processed by the companies WERBA and Filmetal, which are responsible for the proper management of these materials, thereby reducing their environmental impact.

By comparison, the university recycled 7 tons of waste in 2019, demonstrating steady progress in its sustainability practices and environmental commitment.
