Uruguayan researcher tests technique for treating Parkinson's disease

Javier Ganz, a Uruguayan researcher based in Tel Aviv, has grown neurons from cells taken from the mouth and made progress in the fight against Parkinson's disease.

Javier Ganz, a Uruguayan researcher based in Tel Aviv, generated neurons from cells taken from the mouth and achieved breakthroughs in the fight against Parkinson's disease in rats. The results were presented in Japan to scientists from around the world.

Ganz holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of the Republic and is a researcher at Tel Aviv University in Israel; he works on the application of adult stem cells for the treatment of central nervous system disorders.
