Uruguayan scientific innovation: Enteria stands out at Bayer and Cubo Itaú

The Uruguayan company Enteria, co-founded by biotechnology engineers María Pía Campot and Felipe Machado, along with other partners, is receiving significant recognition in the scientific and technological fields.

In 2024, the startup received the prestigious LEGADO Award, presented by Bayer and the Bayer Foundation, and was selected to join the Cubo Itaú Uruguay technology innovation hub, establishing itself as a leader in the biotechnology sector.

A competitive and enriching process

The path to winning Bayer’s LEGADO Award was demanding, according to Campot. “The selection process was very enriching and consisted of several stages. We competed against high-quality local startups, which was a real challenge.” The competition included startups from various sectors and countries, which made Enteria’s achievement all the more significant. “This recognition motivates us to keep growing,” added Campot.

Impact of Bayer's Recognition

For Enteria, being recognized by an organization of Bayer’s stature not only validates their work but also provides them with a platform to expand their vision. “This award reinforces our mission and gives us greater visibility and confidence to continue innovating,” said Campot. The collaboration with Bayer will open doors to new opportunities for expansion, networking, and synergies that will accelerate the company’s projects.

Cubo Seal: Boosting the Scientific Ecosystem

Another recent milestone for Enteria is receiving the Cubo 2024 Seal from Cubo Itaú Uruguay, Latin America’s leading technology innovation hub. “We’re thrilled that they’ve decided to include science-based startups in their first batch in Uruguay. This validates our work and provides us with a unique environment to connect with other entrepreneurs and investors,” said Campot. Enteria’s participation in Cubo Itaú will enable the company to advance its expansion in Latin America, with a particular focus on the Brazilian market.

Science and innovation in the service of society

Enteria’s achievements are significant not only for the company but also for Uruguay’s scientific community. Campot emphasizes that these awards help bring more science-based projects to the forefront in an environment where they often do not receive the attention they deserve. “Recognizing these types of initiatives not only validates the effort but also inspires more entrepreneurs to develop solutions that make a real impact,” he said.

Tips for scientist-entrepreneurs

As for other scientist-entrepreneurs, Campot advises: "Dare to step outside your comfort zone and believe in the value of your expertise. Linking research to market needs is essential. It’s also crucial to surround yourself with people who have complementary skills and to persevere. Every obstacle is a learning opportunity."
