The conference was supported by Conatel, IEEE Uruguay, Microsoft Uruguay, and the Uruguay Linux Users Group (UYLUG).
During the conference, 18 presentations were given by students, faculty members, and representatives from companies in the information and communications technology sector.
More than 25 students and teaching assistants presented 15 papers and projects.
The JEFI program was coordinated by Dr. Nora Szasz, academic coordinator of the Systems Engineering program.
Programming Contest at JEFI
As in previous years, the university organized a programming contest coordinated by Dr. Inés Friss de Kereki, professor of programming.
Nine teams made up of students majoring in Systems Engineering, Systems Science, and Software Engineering participated in the competition.
The design of the exercises and the evaluation of the programs were carried out by Dr. Kereki; Carlos Luna, associate professor of Computer Science; and Gastón Mousqués, professor of Software Engineering.
The first prize was awarded to systems engineering students Joaquín Álvarez, Pablo Kamil, and Omar Saadoun; the second prize to Felipe Herrera, Federico Azzatto, and Matías Nuñez; and the third prize to Sebastián Blanco, Juan José Silveira, and Martín Miodownik.
The winning team will represent Universidad ORT Uruguay the South American finals of the ACM International Programming Contest, which will take place in Buenos Aires on November 13.
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest is organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It is the oldest, most prestigious, and largest programming contest in the world. More than 1,400 universities from 75 countries participate. It promotes creativity, teamwork, and innovation in software development.
Banco Santander awarded the second prize, which consisted of airfare and accommodation in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
