The Latin American Innovation Rally took place on October 9 and 10, 2015. This international competition aims to promote open innovation among engineering students.
In the national competition, the Koba team—composed entirely of students from Universidad ORT Uruguay—won the innovation category with their project titled“Extending the Shelf Life of Food.”
The team was mentored by Ángel Caffa, an associate professor of Systems Architecture and instructor of Operating Systems.

During the competition, participants had 30 hours to select a challenge, understand the problem, form teams, propose a solution, identify the beneficiaries, validate the solution, refine the proposal, and present it in a video of up to 3 minutes in length and a structured report.
The rally was organized by the engineering schools of the University of the Republic, the Catholic University of Uruguay, the University of Montevideo, and ORT University of Uruguay.
