The training session was conducted in accordance with Law No. 18,561 on Sexual Harassment, Prevention, and Punishment in the Workplace and in Teacher-Student Relationships and its Regulatory Decree 256/017, as well as Law No. 19,580 on Gender-Based Violence Against Women and its Regulatory Decree 339/019.
Its goal was to continue raising awareness and preventing situations of abuse and discrimination, and it covered the following topics:
- Raising awareness of the issue. Normalizing and identifying behaviors.
- Conceptualizing harassment. “What exactly do we mean by harassment? Is everything that is labeled as harassment actually harassment?”
- The difference between harassment and discrimination.
- Forms of expression.
- Phases.
- Sexual harassment as a form of gender-based violence. Identification of behaviors that may be considered sexual harassment in the university setting and analysis of their prevalence.
- Assessment of the harm. “Perceptual Gap.” Why is it that, after suffering harm, a report is often not filed immediately?
- Scope of Law No. 18,561 and Decree 256/017, and their application in institutions.
- Psychological and social effects and consequences.
- Intensity: frequency, duration, and nature of the violent behaviors.
- It's Not Harassment: Stress and Burnout in College. Distinguishing Between Terms.
- Promoting Harassment-Free Environments: Prevention, Protocols, and Intervention.
This internal training session was attended by student representatives from the various schools at Universidad ORT Uruguay, as well as officials from the Student Services, Human Resources, Communications, and Admissions departments.
