June 19, 2017
On June 15, 2017, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the seminar “Measuring Natural Capital on Farms: A Review,” presented by Dr. Tihomir Ancev, associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Sydney. The speaker addressed various concepts of Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) and discussed some indicators that can be used in the assessment of natural capital on rural properties. The event was organized by the university’s Australian Studies Centre.
Natural capital accounting is essential for determining how natural resources and environmental assets are being used in production systems, particularly in agriculture.

The speaker identified certain variables and attributes associated with natural resources and ecosystem services as potential indicators that can be incorporated into an NCA model.

Prof. Ancev holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University, United States. His main areas of research are environmental, agricultural, and natural resource economics, contributing to water economics and policy, air pollution economics, and climate change policy. He has published articles in the Journal of Regulatory Economics, Ecological Economics, Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy, and the Australian Journal of Agricultural Economics, among others.
