The basketball team was crowned champion of the Intercollegiate Tournament. This competition, which began in May, featured the following teams: Escuela Militar, Escuela Naval, Instituto Universitario Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes, Universidad Católica, Universidad de Montevideo, and Universidad ORT.
This tournament was created in 2000 by the University Sports Organizing Committee (CODU), composed of one representative from each of the private universities, two from the University of the Republic, and one from the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
