The decision, issued by the Ad Hoc Accreditation Commission, certifies the academic quality standards agreed upon by the agencies of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, and Venezuela. It is the result of a demanding process that included a self-evaluation, a visit by external peer evaluators from Brazil, Chile, and Bolivia, and a rigorous analysis by the Ad Hoc Commission.
The accreditation process consisted of several stages. In the first stage, the School of Architecture conducted a collective analysis of the status of the Architecture program, which was compiled into a Self-Evaluation Report. This report was submitted to a committee of expert peer evaluators from Brazil, Chile, and Bolivia for analysis and subsequent verification during a visit to the faculty. During this visit, the expert peers also interviewed members of the academic community, reviewed student work, and toured the facilities and various services. This stage culminated in a peer report recommending accreditation of the program for a period of six years. In the final stage, the Ad Hoc Commission unanimously issued its final ruling, ratifying the expert peer committee’s recommendation to accredit the program for the aforementioned period.
This distinction places the School of Architecture among the select group of institutions with accredited programs. In addition to the recognition of the degree for academic purposes, accreditation facilitates regional mobility for students and faculty, as well as the development of joint programs in research, teaching, outreach, and dissemination. These achievements benefit our academic community and, through it, Uruguayan society as a whole.
