On December 9, 2019, the ZOU organized the 30th edition of the Jerusalem Prize, which this year was awarded to the Archbishop of Montevideo, Cardinal Daniel Sturla.

Special recognition was given to Prof. Eduardo Tornaría, former director of Escuela Integral; Dr. Eduardo Kohn, executive director for Latin America at B'nai B'rith; and Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg, president of Universidad ORT Uruguay.

The Jerusalem Prize is awarded annually to distinguished individuals from Uruguay who support the cause of the Jewish people. It honors those who have worked to ensure the full realization of human rights and peaceful coexistence among peoples.

Upon receiving the special mention, Prof. Charlotte de Grünberg spoke about the central role that education has always played in the Jewish community.

In particular, she referred to the founding of ORT in 1880 in St. Petersburg, in Tsarist Russia, with the aim of helping Jewish communities through vocational education.
