Conference: "The Conflict in the Middle East: The Media's Perspective on the Regional Actors Involved"

On March 26, the lecture "The Conflict in the Middle East: The Media's Stance Toward the Regional Actors Involved" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The lecture was delivered by George Chaya, an international political analyst. The event was organized by the Central Israeli Committee and the Department of Jewish Studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

Prof. Chaya is a writer and professor. Of Lebanese origin, he specializes in Middle Eastern affairs, regional conflicts, and their impact on the West. He is an expert on counterterrorism. He studied Journalism and Social Communication atthe Chicago College of the University of Chicago. He is an independent advisor and consultant on issues related to the Middle East and Latin America. He is a Senior Lecturer for International Consulting in Policy Affairs on the Middle East and Latin America. He is a political commentator for Radio Miami Internacional. He is an expert analyst on the Middle East for the Safe Democracy Foundation in Madrid. He serves as an advisor to the Academic Council of Infomedio in Madrid.

The speaker writes for various Spanish-language media outlets, including Diario ABC and Diario La Razón, both based in Madrid; GEES (Group for Strategic Studies); Diario del Exterior; and Diario de América in the United States. In March 2004, he was honored by HRJ “for his work in defense of fundamental rights.” In June 2005, he received an “honorable mention for his journalistic work in support of human rights in the Middle East” from the President of the Palestinian National Authority. In November 2007, he received an “honorary recognition” from the United Nations Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa for his work in support of press freedom and the democratic dissemination of news in Arab countries.
