July 2, 2015
On July 2, 2015, the Pocitos Campus hosted the launch of the children’s opera *Brundibár*, which will be performed on July 8 and 9 at the Sodre National Auditorium. The presentation, led by Eduardo Bartfeld, will feature Ela Weissberger, the sole survivor of the children’s choir that performed the work at the Terezin concentration camp.

The Ministry of Education and Culture and the ANEP (National Public Education Administration) are supporting this event with the aim of promoting anti-discrimination education in schools.

Brundibár It is a children's opera with a libretto by Adolf Hoffmeister and music by Hans Krasa, who composed this work during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.

The play, written in 1938, was performed clandestinely four years later at an orphanage for Jewish children in Prague and at the Terezin concentration camp, with the help of the children living there; it was performed 55 times. Krasa and the musicians met their end at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The event is organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.
