Representation of the university abroad
- Each exchange student represents Universidad ORT Uruguay their host university; therefore, they must commit to behaving appropriately and complying with the rules and laws of the institution and the host country at all times.
- You should also strive to achieve the best possible academic performance in the courses you take during the study abroad semester. While the exchange program has many aspects that make it an enriching experience, the academic component is essential.
Application for the student exchange program
- The first step is to meet with your academic advisor so they can approve your application for the exchange program and verify that you meet the requirements for participating in the student exchange.
Quota allocation
- The only document the Student Exchange Coordination Office considers when assigning spots is the completed application form. Only the options selected and preferences indicated on the form will be taken into account.
- Once the application period has ended, it will no longer be possible to make changes to your list of preferred destinations (either the specific options or their order), as this would disrupt the process of allocating spots to all applicants and subsequently their placements. The application deadlines are July 31 for students wishing to study abroad in the first semester and December 15 for students wishing to do so in the second semester.
- If the online application form is missing information that prevents us from identifying the chosen destination (specific campus, school, etc.), the Student Exchange Office reserves the right to assign the spot based on the information provided; therefore, we recommend that applicants pay close attention and contact us with any questions they may have.
- If a request for a change is due to a force majeure situation (security concerns, the economic situation in the destination country, weather emergencies, etc.), the situation will be evaluated in consultation with the program’s academic advisors. If the change of destination is approved, you will be offered one of the other options listed in your application, provided that spots are still available. If you did not list more than one option, you will be offered an alternative spot at the discretion and choice of the Student Exchange Coordination Office.
- Applications to the program are submitted individually, and requests to travel with specific classmates will not be considered. Priority is always given to objective criteria, such as cumulative grade point average (GPA), the number of credits earned, and language proficiency, where applicable.
- The exchange fee will only be refunded during the period for accepting or rejecting the proposed destination, or in cases of verifiable force majeure prior to the trip.
- In the event of a tie between two or more students, the Student Exchange Office may use the following methods to resolve the situation: interviews, evaluation of missed exams, weighting of scores, presentation of achievements, etc.
- The decision regarding the allocation of spots is based on the cumulative grade point average (CGPA), academic progress, fulfillment of language requirements, and the distribution of spots among different programs (in cases of broad agreements).
- The Student Exchange Office will always try to accommodate students' preferences. If there are no openings at the chosen universities, the office will contact you to find an alternative option.
- Being assigned a spot by Universidad ORT Uruguay guarantee admission to the host university, although the acceptance rate has historically been very high.
- If, for any reason, an applicant withdraws from the program, they must notify us in writing as soon as possible.
- The host institution reserves the right to grant final approval for the admission of students from foreign universities.
Language
- If any of the universities listed in your application do not offer courses in Spanish, each student must submit a valid language certificate that meets the standards of the universities included in their selection before the application deadline. Failure to meet this requirement by the stipulated date will disqualify the student from competing for a spot at the university in question, as this would disrupt the quota allocation process for the remaining applicants.
- There will be no extensions for submitting language proficiency certificates, so it is essential that students check the universities’ websites well in advance and contact the Student Exchange Office.
Course Selection and Course Equivalency
- It is each student’s responsibility to identify the courses that interest them among the academic offerings at their host university. Students should verify in advance that the universities they have chosen offer programs that meet their needs or interests.
- You must coordinate the courses you intend to take during your exchange with your faculty’s academic advisor and notify them of any changes to your course selection.
- Each student must submit a mandatory report on the international semester upon their return. Credit for the courses passed is contingent upon the submission of this report. The instructions will be provided by the Student Exchange Office before the end of the exchange.
Travel preparations
- Each student will be responsible for the costs of lodging, meals, transportation, and any other personal expenses during their study abroad program.
- It is each student's responsibility to find and arrange their own housing abroad.
- Each applicant must apply for and pay the fees required to obtain a passport and a student visa for the destination country (if required). The application and renewal of visas or residence permits are the applicant’s sole responsibility. Universidad ORT Uruguay has Universidad ORT Uruguay authority in this matter.
- You must purchase health insurance with adequate coverage (in accordance with the requirements of the destination country) for the duration of your stay abroad. You should also identify healthcare providers and familiarize yourself with the procedures for receiving care.
- Each student agrees to pay any required administrative fees at the host university (health insurance, library card, etc.).
- All students are encouraged to learn the basics of the language of their host country, as this contributes to a richer and safer exchange experience.
- The tuition fee is paid just like any other university course, after registering through the Student Self-Service portal. Before registering, you must obtain official authorization from your Academic Advisor to participate in the program.
