“This has been, once again, a year of tremendous change, ”said Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences, during the 2022 Faculty Awards Ceremony. The dean mentioned recent building inaugurations, such as the Economics Building and the opening of the new ORT Rambla campus.
The event took place on Friday, December 16. It was held in a hybrid format: some participants attended in person at the Pocitos Campus of Universidad ORT Uruguay others participated online via HyFlex®.
A Commitment to Learning

Eduardo Pérez Muñiz, MBA—professor of General Management and Business Planning—and Enrique Kramer, MBA—academic coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Administration and the Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Business, and professor of Strategic Management—received an award in recognition of their contribution to the faculty’s educational development and quality.
“I believe that when you’ve spent 30 years at an institution and the time comes to say goodbye, there’s something that simply cannot be put off, something essential: thanking everyone who has been by your side during this time, who has helped make this a fulfilling and constructive experience, ”Muñiz said.
Finally, he concluded: “How fortunate we all are to be part of an institution like Universidad ORT Uruguay.”

Kramer also said, “Teachers are committed to their students’ learning. That’s why I wake up every morning feeling happy—because I get to do that in a community like ORT, which is truly exceptional.”
“One of the reasons I want to keep teaching is because I don’t want to jump ship. There are so many opportunities, ”he added. “Of course, there are challenges too. Technology has changed. Many of the things we took for granted have been turned on their head. We knew, even before the pandemic, that in-person classes could be either terrible or amazing. What we didn’t know is that amazing classes can also be taught online.”
“Our students are changing, and we have to adapt. This is something that, personally, I find difficult, but at the same time, I love it.”
Supporting students
The Award for Teaching Excellence (Graduate and Executive Programs) was presented to José Gordin, who remarked: “I am truly grateful to receive this honor from the university and to have the opportunity to support our students’ learning journeys. I would like to thank each and every person I have worked with over the years.”
Pride and Privilege

“It is an honor and a privilege for me to be part of this institution. My students know that I give my all for them,” said Lucía Briz, who received the Award for Teaching Excellence (undergraduate programs).
A passion for teaching
The recipient of the Award for Teaching Excellence (short-term programs) was Carina Roveta, MBA, who said: “I accept this award with great love—the same love I give to my students in every workshop. I am deeply passionate about teaching, and I am incredibly grateful to the university for the freedom it affords us.”
The ORT Family
The Teaching Excellence Award was presented to Andrés Rosales, M.A. “Receiving this award means a great deal to me. Ever since I joined the university, I’ve felt like part of the ORT family. It’s a great institution because of the people who make it great,” said Rosales.
An exciting task

“I really didn’t expect this award. Working as a tutor involves building a close bond with the students, and it’s a job I’m passionate about,” said Dr. Agustín Espinosa, who received the Final Thesis Tutor Award.
Follow the example

The recipient of the Final Project Advisor Award was Ana Laura Guerra, B.A.: “I was lucky to have a great advisor, and I always said that when I became an advisor myself, I’d like to be a little bit like the one we had.”
“When you commit to the role of a mentor, you commit to students to whom you give your all—or at least believe you are giving your all—from every perspective, not just academically, but by supporting them in so many ways,” he concluded.
The tools obtained

Dr. Gonzalo Croci, who received the Award for Research and Academic Production, said: “I graduated from this university about 15 years ago. ORT gave me the tools I needed to grow professionally. More than an award for me, I see this as recognition for the university.”
Teamwork

The Outstanding Department Award went to the Law Department. It was accepted by the department chair, Dr. Leticia Aguiar. “I believe ORT has been shaping everyone’s lives and paths. I am so grateful to you all for every opportunity, for every chance you’ve given us to present our work,” said Aguiar, adding: “I thank the team because a department is nothing without all the faculty who make it up, without all the people who do their part every day.”
Juggling both academic and professional responsibilities

Mauricio Oppenheimer, M.A., who received the Lifetime Achievement and Contribution to the Faculty Award, said: “One of the distinguishing features of ORT’s DNA is that we, as faculty members, are also able to share our experiences. Our ability to bridge the gap between the academic and professional worlds is one of the aspects most valued by students.”
“I feel blessed because throughout my entire career, I’ve loved what I’ve done. When I wake up in the morning, I do so grateful for having enjoyed my professional responsibilities—and, of course, my academic ones as well,” he said, concluding: “I’m grateful to ORT for giving me the opportunity to enjoy every day of my life, and I invite future generations to embark on this journey, because it’s truly worth it.”
