Safeguarding education
“On many occasions, I have noted how difficult it is to gain admission to master’s and doctoral programs in our country, and how limited the options can be for many education professionals,” said Julio Rodríguez Vaucher.
However, since “the only constant is change,” the graduate of the Master’s program in Educational Management emphasized that new professionals have a “responsibility to make every effort to lead the process of improvement”and to “safeguard the most precious asset a society can have: its education.”

During the annual graduation ceremony, Rodríguez Vaucher—who delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates of the Institute of Education—also highlighted four sentiments that unite those who recently completed their graduate studies:
- A commitment to education, continuous improvement, and pedagogical innovation, with the aim of making a positive impact on students’ futures.
- The motivation to overcome the challenges that arise, in order to gain insights that can be shared with their respective educational communities.
- A sense of gratitude toward the graduate program faculty, who, in addition to being a source of inspiration, have motivated me to commit to working toward quality education.
- The joy of a job well done, after celebrating graduation: just one of many milestones to come.
This training has taught me so much: it has given me a deeper understanding of educational phenomena and provided me with a broad perspective on the challenges facing education.
Education: A Collaborative Endeavor
“Today is a day to be proud,” said Dr. Jorge Grünberg, rector the Universidad ORT Uruguay, adding that the graduates’ presence at the ceremony is “a testament to their determination, ability, and resilience in the face of challenges.”
In his remarks, he paid tribute to Vice Rector Julio Fernández, who is retiring at the end of July, as well as to Charlotte de Grünberg, the CEO of ORT, who passed away in February 2024.

Now that their education has come to an end, the rector that he hopes the university has prepared the graduates “to think freely”and “to be wary of dogmas and ready-made solutions”: “Our goal is to teach them how to think, not what to think.” While he acknowledged that they are graduating into a turbulent world, he believes it is important “to learn to live together without fear of those who think differently.”
The current challenge centers on new forms of intelligence, since, as he put it, “artificial intelligence is not going to be just another technological change.” Contrary to what one might think, people will not be competing with machines, but rather with “other people who will know how to use them better.”
For that reason, he concluded that the ability to learn will be “one of the essential skills.” And, in that context, it will be crucial to ensure that the pace of relearning “outpaces the pace of technological change.”
Education is a collaborative effort between teachers and students. We learn from each of you, just as we teach you.
