This visit was part of the research project“Collaborative Design and Post-Occupancy Evaluation of Educational Infrastructure.”
This project, led by Dr. Paula Cardellino, a faculty member and researcher at ORT’s School of Architecture, in collaboration with Andrés Riva of ANEP, received funding from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII).
The initiative aims to strengthen the ties between Uruguayan research and international practices in the design of educational spaces, helping to improve learning environments through an innovative and collaborative approach. During her visit, Dr. Woolner shared her extensive experience in the evaluation and design of educational environments with the research team and local stakeholders.

As part of the academic activities, on April 18, Dr. Woolner delivered a lecture titled“Architecture for Education: Challenges and Opportunities to Connect Educational Intentions with School Spaces”at the ORT School of Architecture.
In this presentation, he discussed the importance of aligning educational objectives with spatial design in educational institutions, offering theoretical perspectives and practical examples of how spaces can influence teaching and learning processes.
In addition, on April 19, the scholar led a seminartitled “Where Do We Learn? Innovation in the Use and Design of Learning Environments”at ANEP, a forum dedicated to discussing new trends in the use and design of these environments.

Dr. Woolner’s invitation strengthens the partnership between the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay Newcastle University, as well as the School of Architecture’s commitment to innovation and the development of participatory design practices.
