Organized by the University of San Andrés (UdeSA), this annual competition brings together universities from across the region to compete in various sports and foster team spirit and camaraderie.
A championship that caps off years of hard work
The ORT men's basketball team was crowned champion after a hard-fought final against UdeSA, an achievement that holds special significance for its head coach, Alfredo Russo.
“The first time we traveled to this tournament was in 2007, and we won the title. Now, 17 years later, after trying so many times, winning it again is truly very special, ”said Russo, visibly moved.

The Importance of Competing Internationally
For Russo, participating in international competitions is not only important but “essential” for the university and the sports team.
“It’s about representing the institution’s colors abroad; only those of us who’ve been lucky enough to experience it truly understand. Sharing the day-to-day—from breakfasts to stories—lets you get to know your teammates better, ”he said.
“I’m sure that in 20 years, when they meet again, they’ll look back with joy and pride on what they went through during these experiences—just as those who participated in this competition 17 years ago still do, and still hold ORT dear in their memories,” he said.

A learning experience that goes beyond the result
Although the championship is cause for celebration, Russo points out that the true value of this experience lies in the bond that forms among the team members.
“It doesn’t matter if we have a more or less competitive team one year. Winning is certainly a lot of fun, but what really matters is everything else: the bonds that are formed,” Russo said.
“Being able to proudly describe how wonderful it is to experience that feeling is what makes every trip worthwhile,” he added.
