Lecture: “The Trivialization of Culture as a Seed of Hatred”

Álvaro Ahunchain will reflect on the harmful effects on society of trivializing culture as its fundamental pillar.

The Department of Jewish Studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay a lecture titled “The Trivialization of Culture as a Seed of Hatred,” presented by Prof. Álvaro Ahunchain. The event will take place on May 27, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium on the Pocitos campus (2633 España Blvd.).

Ahunchain is a literature professor who graduated from the Artigas Teachers’ College in 1982. He is a communications consultant specializing in educational and cultural institutions, as well as political parties. He has been a university professor since 1991 and is a columnist for the newspaper El País and Radio Oriental.

He serves as the academic director of the Kolping Institute, an international organization that provides training in entrepreneurship and job placement, with a focus on disadvantaged segments of society.

A playwright and theater director since 1980, he has written some twenty plays, which have premiered in Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, El Salvador, Spain, France, and Germany, and have been published in Uruguay, Brazil, the United States, Spain, and France.

He received the National Playwriting Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2002 and the Juan Carlos Onetti Award from the Municipality of Montevideo in 2017.
