On Monday, May 24, 2021, Dr. Alberto Spektorowski, an expert in political theory and comparative politics, delivered a lecture titled “The New Middle East.” The event was organized by the Department of International Studies and the Department of Jewish Studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

The speaker discussed the evolving nature of old and new conflicts in the Middle East, as well as the alliances and presence of major global and regional powers.

Spektorowski holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His areas of interest lie at the intersection of comparative politics and political theory. He is a professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University and a visiting professor at ORT.

He was a member of the International Contact Group that helped bring an end to the violence and ultimately led to the dismantling of ETA in the Basque Country, Spain. He also participated alongside Palestinian officials in the Camp David peace talks in 2000.
