An MBA student from the University of Chile shares his experience at Universidad ORT Uruguay

November 1, 2022
Claudia Paredes was one of 11 MBA students from the University of Chile who attended a seminar on Digital Business at ORT’s Graduate School of Business. The visit took place from Wednesday, September 28, to Monday, October 3.

Students from the University of Chile, accompanied by Dr. Félix Lizama—a professor in the university’s School of Economics and Business—visited ORT’s Graduate School of Business to learn more about digital business and gain a deeper understanding of Uruguay’s technology sector.

The learning experience

Claudia Paredes—an MBA student at the University of Chile and co-founder of the digital agency Beplan—wrote about the experience on the agency’s blog

“I left Santiago with no expectations, just hoping to embark on a peaceful journey, eager to learn, explore, and share. Instead, I discovered a wonderful country and had an incredible learning experience in a vibrant hub of technological development, surrounded by leading figures in the world of entrepreneurship.”

Speaking about Uruguay’s network of entrepreneurs, he said, “Not only were we struck by their culture, hospitality, and positive vibe, but we also realized that they have a tremendous network of entrepreneurs.”

The activities

The students attended in-person classes and visited various startups and companies. They went to the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where they attended a presentation by the company Vopero and an after-work event with the Nowports team at Sinergia Golf, the Zonamerica campus (Zonamerica, Aiva Sabre), the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (Evertec, Genexus, and DVelop), and the open banking startup Prometeo.

Paredes believes that speaking with various tech company founders was an extremely positive and inspiring experience and a great opportunity. It gave him a new perspective on how important collaboration is. “If we don’t understand that we need everyone and that each person has expertise in their own field, it’s impossible to move forward.”

The trip took place as part of his university's MBA International Study Seminar, which includes activities in various countries.
