A graduate received the 8th Illustration Award in the “Category B: Single Illustration” category

On Thursday, December 2, the National Museum of Visual Arts hosted the awards ceremony for the 8th Illustration Award, organized by the National Directorate of Culture, where Álvaro Zunini was honored for winning first place in Category B (Single Illustration) under the theme “Connected Universes” with his work “Mural of Connected Universes” (2021).

Álvaro Zunini, who “for his social commitment, ability to inspire others, and vision for taking design to a new level of action” recently received the 2022 Award for Creativity and Innovation, holds a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad ORT Uruguay.

The event was attended by the Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo da Silveira, and the National Director of Culture, Mariana Wainstein. This year’s edition welcomed the Republic of Korea as the guest of honor under the theme “Connected Universes.”

The exhibition featured 23 selected projects by artists from both countries in the categories “Children’s and Young Adult Literature” and“Single Illustration.” The award was organized in collaboration with the Korean Society for Illustration Research (KSIR), the Uruguayan Department of Cultural Internationalization, and the Uruguayan Embassy in Korea.

This edition also featured two new categories: the Breakthrough Award and the INCAU Award for Animated Video Illustration, with support from the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAU). For the latter, the jury consisted of Dani Scharf (UY), Yun Tae Nam (KR), and María Eugenia Pérez Burger (UY), who holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and Design from Seoul National University (South Korea) and a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Universidad ORT Uruguay, and a professor in the Bachelor’s Program in Design, Art, and Technology at the School of Communication and Design.
