As part of a joint academic and cultural initiative between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (United States) and Universidad ORT Uruguay, students combine Spanish language courses for non-native speakers and Uruguayan culture with training in Design Thinking, robotics workshops, and Scratch programming language workshops, as well as academic visits to institutions and industries.
The program includes a series of talks by prominent Uruguayan women leaders and entrepreneurs, who will share their experiences on the topic of "women in technology and business," as well as guided tours.
Joint program with Harbin Normal University
Over the past 20 years, ties between Uruguay and China have grown through mutual trust, which has led to the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, science, education, and culture.
More and more Chinese students are choosing to study Spanish in higher education.
Learning Spanish in Uruguay, in an immersion setting, is a great opportunity to master the language and learn about the region's culture.
In turn, the presence of Chinese students at the university fosters understanding between the two cultures.
Since 2008, there has been a cooperation agreement with Harbin Normal University, under which Chinese students enrolled in the four-year Bachelor’s degree program in Spanish spend their third year of study in Uruguay.
Universidad ORT Uruguay has outstanding faculty with training in teaching Spanish to non-native speakers and experience teaching Chinese students, who have their own unique learning characteristics.
The Spanish courses offered under this agreement are:
- Spanish in the Media
- Spoken Spanish
- Editorial
- Literature
- Uruguayan culture
- Society and Commerce in Uruguay
