Nov. 25, 2009From November 14 to 16, Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy and Coordinator of the Working Group on Teacher Professional Development (GTD-PREAL), participated in the international seminar “Teacher Professional Career: A Challenge for Chile” in Santiago, Chile, organized by the Silva Henríquez Catholic University of Santiago. This event included two simultaneous panel discussions in the cities of Valparaíso and Concepción, as well as working meetings with experts, professionals, researchers, and representatives of organizations involved in education. Dr. Vaillant served as a speaker in both Santiago and Concepción and participated in several working groups.

Nov. 23, 2009On November 8 and 9, Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy in the School of Administration and Social Sciences and Coordinator of the Working Group on Teacher Professional Development (GTD-PREAL), participated in the international seminar “Teacher Performance Effectiveness” organized by PREAL in Mexico City, in partnership with the Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO-Mexico).

Nov. 16, 2009The team, consisting of Maximiliano Nogueira, a public accounting student, along with Sebastián González and Darío Avila, students in the Bachelor of Advertising Communication program at ORT University, and Maximiliano Otermin, an economics student at the University of the Republic, won the Sebrae Challenge in Uruguay. In February, they will compete in the finals in Rio de Janeiro.

Nov. 12, 2009On Tuesday, November 17, the launch of the book "Chronicles of Blood, Sweat, and Tears" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design, hosted by journalists Marcello Figueredo and Gabriel Pereyra. The book, written by journalist Leonardo Haberkorn, the school’s Academic Coordinator of Journalism, brings together eleven reports and investigative pieces on recent events in Uruguay.

The speakers were Mauricio Minchilli, Marcelo Castellanos, Jorgelina Spinardi, Martín Sica, and Álvaro Barrera from the agencies EFPZ / DRAFT FCB and Publicis Ímpetu.

Nov. 12, 2009On Thursday, November 19, the lecture "Design for Experience" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. It was presented by Mr. Gustavo Lento Navarro, a design professor at the University of Palermo in Buenos Aires and an image and product consultant specializing in trend research and analysis. The event was organized by the faculty’s academic coordinators of Industrial Design and Fashion.

The lecture was presented by Gabriel Rozman, MBA, Executive Vice President for Emerging Markets at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

Nov. 10, 2009Patricia Gamio, María Eugenia Lima, and Déborah Friedmann, all graduates in Journalism, were honored in the print media category with the Proniño Award for "Journalistic Investigation into Child Labor in Uruguay," selected from among 15 projects submitted in the radio, print, and television categories. This award is sponsored by Movistar’s Proniño Program and the Communication Agency for Children and Adolescents “Voz y Vos,” with the support of the Uruguayan Press Association.

Nov. 5, 2009As part of the activities organized by Alumni MBA, the MBA alumni association of the School of Business and Social Sciences, a gala dinner was held on November 24 at the “El Patio” banquet hall. Dr. Alan Davis, a professor at the College of Business at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) and holder of a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, attended as a guest. During the event, he gave a talk on “Entrepreneurship and MBAs.”
