    The chapter "Study on Public Policies and Evaluation of Measures for the Agricultural Sector's Adaptation to Climate Change" was published in December 2013 in the "2013 OPYPA Yearbook," edited by the Office of Agricultural Programming and Policy of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries.

    In late 2013, Torre del Vigía Publishing released the book *Jack the Ripper: A Solved Mystery* by Eduardo Cuitiño, Ph.D., a professor of Numerical Analysis, Probability, and Statistics in the School of Engineering. The author examines a great mystery: the true identity of the infamous murderer who terrorized the streets of London in 1888.

    The project "Mathematics Based on Functional Programming Languages," submitted by the Theoretical Computing Group (CompuTe) of the School of Engineering to the "Acortando Distancias" program of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), was selected for funding on December 20, 2013.

    The article “The Anxiety of Bastardy: A Sampling of Young Uruguayan Fiction” by Dr. Amir Hamed, Professor of Rhetoric and Persuasion in the Bachelor’s Program in Communication, was accepted in December 2013 for publication in the journal Hispamérica, published by the University of Maryland (United States). It is expected to be published in April 2014.

    The article “Dynamics of Heterogeneous Peer-to-Peer Networks” by Dr. Fernando Paganini, Professor of Telecommunications Theory at the School of Engineering of Universidad ORT Uruguay, Dr. Andrés Ferragut, Associate Professor in the Data Networks Division of the school, and Martín Zubeldía, Research Assistant in the MATE (Mathematics Applied to Telecommunications) group at the faculty, was presented at the “52nd Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Conference on Decision and Control.” The event, organized by the IEEE, took place from December 10 to 13, 2013, in Florence, Italy.

    The article"Levers of control in interorganizational relationships: empirical evidence" by Dr. Luis Silva Domingo, Academic Coordinator of the Master of Business Administration - MBA at Universidad ORT Uruguay, Dr. Teresa Canet Giner, and Prof. Ana Redondo Cano, Full Professors at the Juan José Renau Piqueras School of Business Administration within the Faculty of Economics at the University of Valencia, was presented at the “8th Iberoamerican Academy Conference: World in Transition: business, multiculturalism, and society.” The event, organized by the Iberoamerican Academy of Management and the São Paulo School of Business Administration of the Getulio Vargas Foundation, took place from December 8 to 10, 2013, in São Paulo.

    Dr. César Omar López Ávila, Full Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the School of Economic and Administrative Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Colombia), taught the course “Social and Environmental Accounting” from December 9 to 13, 2013, as part of the Specialization Diploma in Accounting and the Master’s Program in Taxation and Accounting Standards - IFRS.

    The article “Proposal for an Environmental Note in Financial Statements” by Dr. Norma Pontet, Professor of Management Accounting at the School of Administration and Social Sciences at Universidad ORT Uruguay; María Sol Berenguer, a professor of Management Accounting at the faculty, Julio Álvaro Rodríguez, a professor of Assets and Liabilities: Recognition and Measurement 2, and Valentín Sorhuet, a professor of Taxation and Accounting Theory, was presented at the “30th Inter-American Accounting Conference.” The event, organized by the Inter-American Accounting Association, took place from December 1 to 3, 2013, in Punta del Este.

    The article “A Novel Didactic Proof Assistant for Teaching First-Order Logic Natural Deduction” by Jorge Pais, Ph.D., Professor of Data Structures and Algorithms 1 at the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay, and Dr. Álvaro Tasistro, Professor of Computer Theory and member of the faculty’s Theoretical Computing Research Group, was accepted in December 2013 for presentation at the “16th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCI International 2014.” The event, organized by HCI International, will take place from June 22 to 27, 2014, in Creta Maris (Greece).

    In December 2013, RedAGE (Network for Educational Management Support) published the book “The Relationship Between Secondary Schools and Their Surroundings in Ibero-America,” edited by Dr. Joaquín Gairín, Visiting Professor in the Master’s Program in Educational Management, and Professor of General Basic Education and Chair of the Department of Applied Pedagogy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The publication was published in Santiago, Chile.

    In December 2013, the Energy Sector Fund of the ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation) approved two projects proposed by biotechnology faculty members, which will be carried out from February 2014 to February 2016 at the Biotechnology Laboratory.

    Architect Alice Bonet is one of the first graduates of the Specialization Diploma in Real Estate Business, which the School of Architecture launched in 2012. As the director of her own real estate venture, Architect Bonet decided to enroll in the program with the goal of strengthening her knowledge of the real estate business. We interviewed her so she could tell us about her experience.

    Thanks to the support of Antel, which designed and launched a high-capacity Internet service for educational institutions, Universidad ORT Uruguay throughout 2013 to implement the service, which is now fully operational. Today, with a 1 Gbps download and 500 Mbps upload Internet connection, in addition to a significant investment in network infrastructure, students across all faculties have experienced a considerable improvement in their Internet connection speeds.

    Students from the Camino TICs Program were invited by Mariale Lecueder, Marketing Manager at Montevideo Shopping, to a Community Outreach Day, which took place on December 6, 2013, at the mall. The students had the opportunity to learn about the technology system developed for the parking garage, as well as the mall’s security, lighting, and central air conditioning systems.

    Dr. Daniel Fridlender, a professor at the National University of Córdoba (Argentina), attended the thesis defense on December 18, 2013, for the Master of Engineering (Research Track) by Nicolás Fornaro, a professor of Application Design and Programming at the school. The title of the thesis is “Interpretation of KM3/ATL in Type Theory,” and the advisor is Dr. Álvaro Tasistro, Academic Coordinator of the graduate program.

    In December 2013, the schools held their annual Teaching Excellence Awards ceremonies. These awards are intended to recognize the quality of instruction provided by faculty members who regularly teach courses, as well as the learning achievements of their students. At each ceremony, the respective dean reviews the year’s achievements and presents the awards to the winning faculty members, who have demonstrated outstanding performance during the year and have an exceptional academic record within the faculty. The university has been presenting these awards since 1995.
