Dec. 28, 2011Pedidos Ya!, a startup founded by Álvaro García, a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Systems; Ariel Burschtin, a graduate with a degree in Systems Engineering; and Ruben Sosenke, a graduate with a degree in Information Technology Analysis, has closed a new round of funding led by Kaszek Ventures, the leading Latin American venture capital firm that invests in high-impact entrepreneurs in the technology sector. It was also one of two Uruguayan companies selected in early December by the Endeavor International Entrepreneur Selection Panel (formerly the Endeavor Promises Program) to help boost its success. Dec. 13, 2011Marcos Baudean, who teaches Research Methodology in the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies and the Applied Research Workshop in the Bachelor’s Program in Management and Administration, published the book *The Dilemmas of State Intervention in the Economy: Administrative Autonomy and Political Control in the Early History of the Banco República (1896–1931).” Baudean, 40, holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Universidad ORT Uruguay a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of the Republic.

Dec. 13, 2011On December 28, 2011, the eighth edition of “Puesta en escena”—the final fashion show for the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, titled “Perfil Hados” this year—took place at the El Galpón Theater. Sixth-semester students in the program participated by presenting their runway collections.

Dec. 12, 2011On December 14, 2011, the ORT Centro Auditorium hosted a lecture titled “Predicting Complex Traits Using DNA and Genealogies,” presented by Dr. Daniel Gianola, who holds a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Animal Breeding with a minor in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The event was organized by the Academic Coordination Office for Biotechnology at the School of Engineering.

Dec. 8, 2011On December 9, 2011, the graduation ceremony for the graduate programs of the School of Business and Social Sciences was held at the ORT Pocitos Auditorium, with 50 graduates participating from the following programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Financial Management, Master of Human Resources Management, and Specialization Diplomas in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, Taxation, and Marketing Management.

Dec. 5, 2011The article "Sustainable Competitive Advantages through Intellectual Capital: Integrating the Complementarities between Institutional Theory and Resource-Based Theory," by Dr. Norma Pontet, professor of managerial accounting in the School of Business and Social Sciences, and César López, a full-time professor at ICESI University in Cali, was published in Volume 8, January/July 2011, of the Journal of the International Cost Institute.

Dec. 5, 2011Matilde Martí, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in Journalism and Head of Content for the “In Situ” website of the School of Communication and Design, won the print/digital media category of the “Historias del Ceibal” contest organized by Plan Ceibal as part of the Rayuela Project, with support from the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank). She was awarded the prize for her proposal to document the “Aurora Project.”

Dec. 1, 2011The goal of the original reality show "La casa Divino," organized by the Divino company, was to furnish a house; two of the finalists were students at the School of Architecture. Erika Antúnez, 24, was the winner of the contest. In 2012, she will be taking her final semester of the Bachelor's degree program in Interior Design.

The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Dec. 1, 2011From November 11 to December 9, 2011, the workshop “Timing and Editing of Short Films” will take place as part of the Professional Development Workshop Series in Animation for professionals in Uruguay’s animation and video game industries. This workshop is being held under the academic cooperation agreement between the School of Communication and Design and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

Dec. 1, 2011On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, the theater group from the School of Communication, directed by Tabaré Rivero, presented its final performance in the Atahualpa Hall at El Galpón Theater. They performed the plays “Ascenso” and “AT.DT” by Maya Landesman, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Audiovisual Communication, and “Puta de Mensa” by Woody Allen.
