    On March 26, 2012, the Faculty of Engineering hosted the lecture “Adapting Software Process Maturity/Capability Models to the Reality of Businesses,” presented by Dr. Jean Carlo Rossa Hauck, Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Southern Santa Catarina (Brazil) and Researcher at GQS —the Software Quality Group at the National Institute of Science and Technology for Digital Convergence. It was aimed at software quality managers, software process managers, project managers, development managers, and operations managers at software companies.

However, in many areas facing critical socioeconomic conditions, bathrooms—and their role in preventing the spread of disease and other health issues—are often neglected. Matías Lozano, a 24-year-old eighth-semester student in the Industrial Design program, decided to complete his final thesis project in collaboration with the Ñande Project to jointly create sanitary facilities for homes in the Casavalle neighborhood.

    On March 28, 2012, an informational session on the “More and Better AutoCAD” course was held at the School of Architecture, led by Architect Fernando Montaño, an AutoCAD Technical Designer and instructor for the course. The session was aimed at architects, engineers, construction technicians, and advanced students who are users of earlier versions of AutoCAD and are interested in updating their knowledge of the latest version of the program.

It was presented by architects Angélica Campi and José María Doldán, professors at the University of Palermo (Argentina). The event was organized by the Academic Coordination of Interior Design.

    The Academic Coordination Office for the Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology organized the workshop "So... What Is Biotechnology?" which took place on February 15, 2012, at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the School of Engineering. Due to high demand, the workshop was repeated in two sessions held on February 29 and March 7. It was aimed at high school students interested in this field, who had the opportunity to conduct experiments in the laboratory.

    The "Justa" table by Timothy Goodman, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, received an Honorable Mention in the Student Division—Living Room Furniture Category at "Salão Design Movelsul 2012," the largest product design competition in Latin America. The exhibition and awards ceremony took place at the Bento Gonçalves Event Park (Rio Grande do Sul) from March 26 to 30, 2012, concurrently with the "Feria Movelsul 2012."

    The "Económica" and "Chau Philomene One" typefaces, created by Vicente Lamónaca, a professor of typography in the Graphic Design program, were acquired by Google for its library of web fonts. They are the first Uruguayan typefaces to be included on this platform. The fonts are available free of charge for use in web design.
