May 31, 2008To mark World Book Day (May 26), the Ministry of Education and Culture organized the "A Nation Reads" event from May 26 to 30. In support of this event, the School of Design created a poster that will be broadcast on television, with the aim of promoting a National Story and Poetry Contest for children and young people, for which writers, storytellers, and reading advocates are traveling across the country.

May 31, 2008On May 9, the School of Design hosted the "Crafts and Design" event, a gathering for artisans and design students organized by the Todos por Uruguay Foundation—the organizer of the HechoAcá exhibition—and the School of Communication and Design. In attendance were representatives from HechoAcá, Matilde Buscaso and Eduardo Pick; the Academic Secretary of the School of Design, Oscar Aguirre; the Academic Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Mariana Muzi; the Academic Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Daniel Domínguez; and the Coordinator of the Craft - Design, Ana Grossy.

May 31, 2008ORT University, Intellecta Design, and Tipografía Montevideo launched a series of events focused on outreach, discussion, experimentation, and learning in connection with the 2009 "Edward Johnston" National Typography Award of Uruguay (PNTU'09). On May 19, , the lecture “Typography: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,” presented by Eduardo Bacigalupo, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The speaker, a Uruguayan living in Brazil, is the designer of several corporate typefaces in that country. During the lecture, he shared his professional journey from the 1970s to the present day.

May 31, 2008On Friday, May 16, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the lecture “Bioclimatic Architecture: Toward a New Paradigm,” presented by architect César Ruiz-Larrea, one of the most prominent architects in Spain today. Architect César Ruiz-Larrea recently participated in a series of keynote lectures titled “AE’08 Architecture Encounters” in Argentina.

May 31, 2008On May 22, the ORT Pocitos Auditorium hosted the lecture "Six Degrees of Separation: Implications and Applications of Network Theory in Organizational Development," presented by Dr. Ignacio Porras, a professor and researcher at the Bolivarian University (UB) and coordinator of the Master’s Program in E-Government at the Metropolitan Technological University (UTEM) in Chile. The event was organized by the Institute of Education.
