June 30, 2008Starting in June, ORT University is authorized to administer the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) through its Pearson VUE testing center, which has been designated a "Testing Center Select"—the only one of its kind in Uruguay.

June 30, 2008On June 17, the Institute of Education hosted a seminar titled “Networked Communities: Benefits and Challenges” at the ORT Centro Auditorium. The event was moderated by María Inés Vázquez, M.A., and featured presentations by Dr. Carme Armengol, Dr. Diego Castro, and Dr. Denise Vaillant. The purpose of the symposium is to present and analyze various national and international educational communities that have successfully created and consolidated networks with the support of technological platforms.

June 30, 2008On Thursday, June 5, the RECREACIÓN'09 event was launched at the Patio Colonial and Sala Figari venues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Palacio Santos. Its goal is to bridge the gap between design and industry, with final-year students from the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic, Industrial, and Fashion Design participating as solution providers.

June 30, 2008On June 24, the university’s first annual commencement ceremony was held at the Solís Theater. A total of 140 graduates from all faculties attended. Speakers included the President of ORT Uruguay, Dr. José Braun; the Rector ORT University, Dr. Jorge Grünberg; and graduates from the various faculties. The deans presented awards for academic excellence.

June 30, 2008From June 16 to 18, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the course "Strategy and Operational Excellence for Global Competitiveness," led by Dr. Nelson Fraiman and Dr. Medini Singh, professors at Columbia Business School. The event was organized by the Center for Executive Education and was aimed at Endeavor entrepreneurs.

June 30, 2008On Wednesday, June 4, the lecture "Darfur and the Wars in Sudan: Oil, Ethnicity, Religion, the Desert, and the Limits of International Intervention" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Management and Social Sciences. The event was organized by the Department of International Studies and was presented by Máximo Halty, Director of the United Nations Strategic Planning Information Systems Program in Sudan.

June 30, 2008Andrés Bancalari, Assistant Academic Coordinator of International Studies, has been selected to participate in the Study of the United States Institute on American Civilization program , which will take place from June 14 to July 28 at New York University. The program is organized by the U.S. Department of State and brings together 18 academics from around the world with the aim of introducing participants to the history, politics, laws, and literature of the United States.

June 30, 2008As part of the Red CLARA project—in collaboration with the University of the Republic and the Catholic University—and with funding from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI), ORT University has to the Springer-Link database since June, which includes the collection of e-books from 2005 to 2006. In addition, subscriptions were added to the Academic Search Complete article databases and a specific interface for business searches (Business Searching Interface) within Business Source Premier, through EBSCO.

June 30, 2008From June 23 to 27, the School of Architecture and the British Embassy in Uruguay organized a series of lectures on sustainable design, delivered by Prof. Greg Keeffe, Full Professor of Design at the School of Architecture, University of Manchester (United Kingdom) and the lead instructor for the Master’s in Bioclimatic Design, where innovative solutions to minimize energy consumption are developed and tested. All lectures took place in the Faculty auditorium, located at 2633 España Boulevard.

June 30, 2008ORT University has signed a student exchange agreement with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Clermont-Ferrand in France, which sets forth the criteria and conditions for the exchange.

June 30, 2008On June 12, a delegation from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, currently completing an internship at Lolita, will visit the School of Communication and Design. They will take a tour of the facilities and attend a presentation by the Dean, Eduardo Hipogrosso, who will outline the School’s activities.

June 1, 2008On June 5, the awards ceremony for the Fondo Emprender Business Plan Competition took place, featuring 50 competing proposals. The team consisting of Juan Ignacio Gioscia and Nathan Schorr, students in the Bachelor of Management and Administration program, along with Kenneth Belizky, a student at the Catholic University, won first place for the best business plan for the website Blahsports.com
