June 20, 2011The Graffiti Awards are the most prestigious awards in Uruguayan music. In the Best Children's Music Album category, the winner was the album by Gato Peludo, part of the cultural center of the same name. The illustrations for this album were created by Andrés Silva, a 24-year-old student pursuing a bachelor's degree in graphic design.

Presentations were given by Mag. Edith Moraes, Director of the Council for Education Training at the National Public Education Administration, and Dr. Denise Vaillant, Academic Secretary of the Institute of Education.

June 13, 2011The School of Communication and Design signed a framework agreement with the University Institute of Art (IUNA) in Buenos Aires, with the aim of promoting academic cooperation between the two institutions. The agreement proposes the development of joint activities in cooperation, training, and professional development of personnel; the improvement of teaching quality; research and development projects; and technology transfer. The specific fields and areas of cooperation will be established in separate agreements.

June 8, 2011On June 14, the Design School Hall hosted the professional presentation “14 Designers You Can’t Afford to Miss!”, organized by the academic coordinators of the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic, Industrial, and Fashion Design. Fourteen graduates shared their personal perspectives on design through exhibitions and public presentations. The opening was led by DI Oscar Aguirre, Academic Secretary of the School of Design.

June 7, 2011On Thursday, June 9, the book *El señor Fischer* by writer Ana Solari—a professor and Student Advisor at the School of Communication—was presented at the Mexican Cultural Center (Emb. Vicente Muñiz Arroyo). The presentation was led by writers Fernando Butazzoni, Carlos María Domínguez, and the author. This book was awarded the First Prize for Unpublished Fiction 2010 by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

June 1, 2011The proposal by the Uruguay Group—composed of Mathias Cenas, a student in the Operating Systems and Networks Technician program; Victoria Alonso-Pérez, a student at the University of the Republic; and Maximiliano Pereira, a student at the University of Labor of Uruguay—mentored by architect Giorgio Gaviraghi of the eDL studio in Montevideo, won third place in the competition organized by NASA and the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), as part of the RASC-AL (Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts Academic Linkage) project.
