    On June 27, 2017, the launch of Emprendetón—a competition organized by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), CPA Innovation, and the da Vinci Foundation—took place in the Daniel Ferrere Room at CPA Innovation. The event invites entrepreneurs to present their ideas and participate in a training program on entrepreneurship.

    On June 29, 2017, the Faculty of Communication and Design hosted the lecture “We’re in the Business of Anticipation” by Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, founder of FiRe Advertainment, which has in Barcelona, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima, Miami, Mexico City, Quito, San José, Costa Rica, and Santiago, Chile.

    In June 2017, the university’s Center for Australian Studies welcomed Dr. Tihomir Ancev, an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Sydney’s School of Economics. On June 13, Dr. Ancev delivered a lecture titled “Security bond for coal seam gas development: an economic experimental study” at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences.

    On June 29, 2017, the Pocitos Campus hosted a lecture titled “Israel as a National and Liberal Model: From Marginalization to Role Model,” presented by Dr. Alberto Spektorowski, professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University. The speaker provided an analysis of the State of Israel’s journey toward the consolidation of its democratic institutions. The event was organized by the university’s Department of Jewish Studies.

    Leonardo Loureiro, an engineer and professor in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, took office in June 2017 as president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI). His term will run through June 2018. He will continue the current board’s focus, which aims to strengthen ties with various government agencies and educational institutions to train high-quality personnel for the industry.

    On June 30, 2017, the supplement *El Empresario* of the Montevideo-based newspaper *El País* published a special edition marking its 12th anniversary, dedicated to presenting a series of case studies on Uruguayan companies used by leading universities around the world. Of the six cases presented, four were developed at Universidad ORT Uruguay.

    The article “Deploying team-based learning at undergraduate software engineering courses,” co-authored by faculty members from the School of Engineering, was published in June 2017 in the proceedings ofthe “International Workshop on Software Engineering Curricula for Millennials.” This peer-reviewed conference, organized by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), took place on May 27 of that year in Buenos Aires.

    On June 28, 2017, the lecture “The Crisis of the Liberal World and the Rise of Nationalist Populism: Causes and Consequences” was held at the Pocitos Campus. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Alberto Spektorowski, professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University, who reflected on the current political landscape. The event was organized by the university’s Department of Jewish Studies and the Department of International Studies.

    Dr. Valeria Grazú, a researcher at the Aragón Institute of Nanoscience at the University of Zaragoza, visited the Biotechnology Laboratory of the School of Engineering from June 19 to 27, 2017. She participated in a workshop with representatives from the veterinary pharmaceutical company Virbac and researchers from the university’s Biotechnology department.

    On June 22, 2017, the Gamedev Meetup Uruguay – Art, Animation, and Video Games took place at the Campus Centro. This monthly event brings together developers and others interested in video game creation. A dozen artists gave five-minute presentations to share their projects and lessons learned, and discussed potential new challenges and possible team collaborations.

    On June 26, 2017, the “Food Design 2017 Experience” presentation took place at the Downtown Campus. The event provided an opportunity to discover and sample culinary creations developed by students in the Industrial Design 3 – Production Feasibility course as part of the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, paired with various types of craft beers.

On this occasion, Federico Wynter, an adjunct professor of Uruguayan Foreign Policy at the faculty, gave a presentation titled "Bilateral Relations between Argentina and Brazil in Nuclear Policy during the Period 1979–1990."

    From June 20 to 22, 2017, a series of open lectures was held at the School of Engineering, during which teaching assistants from the Department of Mathematics gave presentations on "Game Time," "Elementary Matrices and Matrix Scalarization," and "Diagonalization of Matrices and Applications."
