
*Le Corsaire*, performed by the Sodre National Ballet, was staged in Uruguay in 2014. Hugo Millán, a professor in the Fashion Design program, designed the costumes and created the set, which was built in the Sodre workshops.
The Hong Kong Ballet initially wanted to rent the designs created by Millán but ultimately decided to purchase the licenses and create them from scratch. The designer traveled there to oversee the entire process, where, he said, his biggest challenge “was being able to stay within a framework in a market that was infinite and had no budget limits.”

On April 20, Millán’s work was honored at the 20th Hong Kong Dance Awards. In addition, the Hong Kong Ballet’s *Le Corsaire* also received the awards for Best Performance and Best Production.
This is also important as a stepping stone to another project: people know that we do this kind of work here, and we do it well.
That’show he summed up the experience when he was hired by the Hong Kong Ballet. Regarding the nomination, he said, “Acknowledgments are welcome; I’m much more interested in the process.”
