    On October 31, 2012, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted a lecture titled “Accounting Aspects of the Commercial Companies Act,” presented by Dr. Giovanna Lorenzi, Manager of the Tax and Legal Advisory Department at KPMG Uruguay (consulting and tax and legal advisory services).  It was organized by the Academic Coordinators of the Public Accountant Program and the Graduate Programs in Accounting and Taxation at the faculty.

    On October 31, 2012, the “First Specialized Seminar on International Trade” took place at the School of Management and Social Sciences, organized by the school’s International Trade Department. The opening remarks were delivered by the Dean of the School of Administration and Social Sciences, Dr. Gaston Labadie, and the Professor of International Trade, Isidoro Hodara, Esq. During the event, awards were presented to the winners of the contest on the topic “Overview of Argentine restrictions on foreign trade and their impact on Uruguay,” which was open to students in the Bachelor’s program in International Studies.

    On Monday, October 22, 2012, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the lecture "Marketing for Designers," presented by Architect Sergio Corian, Executive Director of Latinamerican Architects, the leading network of architectural firms in Latin America. The lecture was held as part of the launch of the Continuing Education Program in Contemporary Design. Following the presentation, Flavio Morán, Ph.D., Full Professor of Furnishings and Design at the faculty, introduced the program.

    On October 31, 2012, the Design School Hall hosted the professional presentation titled “The Starting Eleven Are Here. Eleven Confirmed Players Take the Field,” led by graduates of the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic, Industrial, and Fashion Design. They shared their personal perspectives on design through an exhibition and public presentation.

    The documentary series “Community Heroes” portrays the life stories of ordinary people who “view solidarity as a duty”—from a former professional soccer player who runs six soup kitchens and teaches the sport to children in a shantytown to a woman who runs a children’s home where she feeds fifty, eighty, or even one hundred twenty children at a time. Co-produced by Uruguayans, “Community Heroes” has just received a Rocky Mountain Emmy for being named the best regional documentary program of human interest.

    From October 25 to 30, 2012, an exhibition of photographs on Chinese culture, organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, was held in the ORT Centro Hall. The opening took place on Thursday, October 25, and was attended by Qu Shengwu, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Uruguay.

    The School of Communication and Design organized the sixth edition of the International Animation Festival “FIA ’12,” which took place from October 22 to 25, 2012, in the school’s auditorium. The FIA serves as a platform for showcasing animations created by students and graduates of animation schools, independent animators, and international production companies, as well as a space for artistic and technological reflection on the discipline of animation. The categories include animated short film, experimental animated short film, web animation, animation school reels, and advertising short film/music video. On this occasion, 55 short films were selected, totaling four hours of animations in competition. Animations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, Finland, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, and Uruguay participated in the festival.

    Pedidos Ya.com, a company founded by Álvaro García, a graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Systems Science; Ariel Burschtin, a graduate with a degree in Systems Engineering; and Ruben Sosenke, a graduate with a degree in Information Technology Analysis, was launched in Lima (Peru) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil). It is a service that allows users to find the best restaurants offering delivery and place food orders online.

    “Community Heroes,” a program directed by Oscar Estévez, a graduate of the Audiovisual Production program, won the 2012 Rocky Mountain Emmy Award for “Outstanding Human Interest Documentary Program.” It is a documentary series featuring 12 stories with real-life protagonists from three countries. It is produced by Mediapolis and Brigham Young University International. The winners were announced at a ceremony held on October 6, 2012, at University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona, United States).

    On October 18, 2012, the Faculty of Engineering hosted the second session of the series "The University and the Working World: Entrepreneurs," led by Enrique Topolansky, Coordinator of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), and Graciela Balparda, Graciela Balparda (moderator), a faculty member and instructor in the Department of Educational Technology at the Council of Primary Education, and representatives from the information technology company Código del Sur. The event was organized by the Graduate Affairs Office and the Department of Professional Communication at the faculty, along with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
