    From October 21 to 29, 2013, the exhibition “Design Objects – Entrepreneurship” was held in the Hall of the School of Communication and Design. It was organized by Natalia Bernarducci, Diego Chiola, Luis Pedro Díaz, Lucía Etchemendy, Florencia Giossa, Alfonso López, Victoria Mastroianni, and Tatiana Zooby, students in the Industrial Design 5 (Innovation) in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, under the guidance of Prof. Alejandro Trinidad.

    Manuel Bravo, a student in the Bachelor’s program in Systems Engineering, along with Matías López, Santiago Rosa, and Christian Zurbrigg—students in the Software Analyst program at the CTC Center in Colonia—and Lucas Díaz, a student at Liceo Departamental No. 1 in Colonia, were the winners of the “IEEE SEK” (Standard Education Kits) category in the Latin American “XII LARC Latin American Robotics Competition.” The event took place from October 21 to 27, 2013, in Arequipa, Peru.

    Prof. Matías Núñez, a faculty member of the joint program with Harbin Normal University (China), participated in the “Literature and the Margin: Mario Levrero” symposium, organized by the Master’s Program in Latin American Literary Studies at the National University of Tres de Febrero (Argentina). The event took place on October 28 and 29, 2013. Prof. Núñez presented the paper “Autofiction and Intertextuality in Mario Levrero: Writing as Performance.”

    Dr. Inés Kereki, Professor of Programming in the School of Engineering, and Assistant Professor Víctor Paulós, Academic Secretary of the school, participated on October 17 and 18, 2013, in the “Expoaprende” exhibition, organized by Plan Ceibal. The event took place at the Sodre National Auditorium “Dra. Adela Reta.” During the event, they worked with Dr. Mitchel Resnick, LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research and Academic Head of the Media Arts and Sciences programme the Group Lifelong Kindergarten of the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Media Lab. Professor Resnick is the creator of Scratch, a visual and intuitive programming learning system designed for children and adolescents, which is installed on the “Ceibalitas” distributed by Plan Ceibal to elementary and secondary school students across the country.

    The project “Your Parents Will Return,” directed by Pablo Martínez Pessi, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Audiovisual Communication, won the “FONA 2013” award in the “documentary” category. The winners were announced on October 25, 2013.

    Cinthia Eliazer, a lecturer in the course "Business and the International Environment" as part of the Bachelor's Degree in International Studies, delivered a lecture on October 25, 2013, titled "Happiness and Work: Utopia or Reality?” at the “Human Capital Forum,” which took place from October 23 to 25 in the Auditorium of ANTEL’s Torre de las Telecomunicaciones Complex. The forum was organized by Crear Comunicación and sponsored by the university.

    Universidad ORT Uruguay an agreement with the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, which allows students with the most innovative projects in the field of information technology to complete an internship at this university. The agreement was signed during a visit to Israel from October 27 to November 1, 2013, by Uruguayan information technology entrepreneurs organized by CUTI (Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology), in which the Academic Coordinator of the Master’s in Technology Business Management, Marcel Mordezki, participated.

    The Truly.am app, created by Dayana Jabif and Agustín Haller, graduates of the Systems Engineering program, was recognized as one of the top entries at “Disrupt Hackathon, an event organized by the technology website TechCrunch in Berlin, Germany. Starting on October 26, 2013, the graduates had 24 hours to design and program their app. They then presented a one-minute demo of it to the jury and a large audience.

    The article “Linking entrepreneurial orientation, environmental uncertainty, and the adoption of quality management practices: empirical evidence from Latin America” by Dr. Alejandro Bello Pintado, Professor and Researcher in the Department of Business Management at the Public University of Navarra (Spain); Dr. Javier Merino Díaz de Cerio, Professor and Researcher in the same department; and Cr. Ricardo Kaufmann, Associate Professor of General Administration at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences of Universidad ORT Uruguay, was accepted in October 2013 for presentation at the “8th Iberoamerican Academy Conference: World in Transition: business, multiculturalism and society.” The event will take place from December 8 to 10, 2013, in São Paulo.
