Nov. 30, 2010As part of the initiative to introduce economics education in secondary schools, the Academic Coordination Office for Economics at the School of Administration and Social Sciences is organizing two workshops for teachers of this subject, to be held in February 2011. The first workshop is titled “Teaching Economics in Secondary Schools: Pedagogical and Conceptual Elements of Microeconomic Topics,” and the second is based on the book *Understanding Uruguay’s Economy: A Basic Textbook*, published by CINVE.

Nov. 30, 2010Pablo D'Angelo, a professor in the Industrial Design program, participated in the "2nd Ibero-American Design Biennial" organized by the Madrid Designers Association, which opened on November 22 at the Matadero Madrid Design Center. His project, the "Tango" Tricycle, was selected as the Best Project in its category for Uruguay and as one of the best entries to participate in the biennial. The exhibition will continue through February 2011.

Nov. 30, 2010In November, the School of Management and Social Sciences published Research Paper No. 60, "The Impact of ICT on Adolescents' Perceptions and Substance Use," by Dr. Néstor Gandelman, Academic Coordinator of Economics, co-authored with Rafael Porzecanski, M.A., of the University of California, Los Angeles, and Ana Balsa, M.A., of the University of Montevideo. It also published Research Paper No. 61, "The Case of Uruguay-Brazil Border Integration: Analytical Dimensions and Preliminary Working Hypotheses," by Dr. Daniel Rótulo, a researcher in the Department of International Studies, co-authored with Dr. Octavio Damiani of the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development.

Nov. 30, 2010On Tuesday, November 30, the "Pro Tools 9" lecture, presented by Gustavo Lozada, Technical Support Manager at M-Audio AVID Latin America, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. During the event, he demonstrated the new features of this renowned DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) in its latest version. The event was organized by the Palacio de la Música and the faculty’s Academic Sound Coordination Office.

Nov. 22, 2010The paper "Detection of Human Papillomavirus Types 16, 18, 31, and 33 in Severe Dysplasia and Cervical Carcinoma In Situ" by Mag. Carlos Sanguinetti, Academic Coordinator of Biotechnology, co-authored with Dr. Guillermo Rodríguez, Dr. Isabel Fernández, Dr. Enrique Barrios, Dr. Rafael Alonso, Dr. Noemí Maedo, and Dr. Juan Vasallo, won second prize in the 2009 Revista Médica del Uruguay – Roemmers Laboratory “Dr. Luis Folle” Award.

Nov. 15, 2010On Friday, November 26, the seminar "Transfer Pricing and Intra-Group Services" was held in the Pocitos Chamber. It was led by José Luis Eguía, CPA, a partner at the law firm Goldemberg & Eguía Asociados (Argentina) and an adjunct professor in the Department of Tax Law at the University of Belgrano. The event was organized by the Graduate and Executive School of the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences.

The event was organized by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the School of Engineering. The workshop was aimed at representatives from academia and the business sector, entrepreneurs, and students in general.
