    On Friday, December 3, the lecture "Visual Culture at the Frontiers of Our Time" took place at ORT Centro, presented by Dr. Enrique Tamés, Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Mexico City Campus of Tecnológico de Monterrey. The event was organized by the Mexican Embassy in Uruguay and the School of Communication and Design. It was exclusively for faculty members.

    On Thursday, December 2, a screening of the documentary "Mundialito" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The film was directed by Sebastián Bednarik, a graduate of the Audiovisual Production Technician program, and produced by Andrés Varela, Executive Producer at Coral Films. Following the screening, both spoke about how the project was conceived and produced, and provided insight into the 1980 Mundialito and its historical context.

    On Wednesday, December 1, the "Rock & Pop 8" concert took place at the El Galpón Theater, featuring the 2009 class of the Sound Design Technician program. The bands that performed were: Barrabás, Frecuencia, Grubb, Delta Groove, The Blueberries, Rasta Soul, Luciana Mocchi, and Inchalá de la Arena.

    On Wednesday, December 1, the lecture "Character Design and Pixel Animation for Video Games" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The lecture was given by Prof. Jesse López, who holds a Bachelor of Film and Art from the California Institute of the Arts ( CalArts) in the United States and is a faculty member in the Bachelor's Program in Animation and Video Games.

    Architect Graziella Blengio, Academic Secretary of the School of Architecture and professor in the Bachelor’s Program in Interior Design, was awarded the “Teaching Award” at the 2010 Interior Design Night, organized by the Association of Professional Interior Designers of Uruguay (ADDIP) as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

    The digital journal of the Ibero-American Network of Experts in Port Management, published by the CEDDET Foundation, featured articles by Gustavo Rubinsztejn, Academic Coordinator of Marketing, and Dr. Norma Pontet, Academic Coordinator of Accounting and Taxation at the School of Administration and Social Sciences.

    Ana Inés Pais, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, was the only entrant from Uruguay selected for the “Las Nuevas plumas” contest, organized by the Escuela de Periodismo Portátil and the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. Her work, based on her final thesis project titled "Four-Legged Scientists," was one of fifteen selected for publication in a book presented during the 2010 Guadalajara International Book Fair.

    Félix Abadi, Professor of Taxation, and Eduardo Jadra, Professor in the Tax Department of the School of Management and Social Sciences, presented on "The Attribution of Income to a Permanent Establishment" during the panel discussion "Tax Treatment Applicable to Transactions Between the Parent Company and a Permanent Establishment" as part of the 2010 Tax Conference organized by the General Tax Directorate (DGI). The event took place on December 8 in the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Administration at the University of the Republic.

    On December 2, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted the lecture "Adoption of IAS/IFRS: A Practical Approach Using the Conceptual Framework," presented by Dr. Jorge Tua Pereda, Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and visiting professor for the Master's Program in Accounting and Taxation. The event was organized by the faculty’s Graduate Studies Department.

    The Rector, Dr. Jorge Grunberg, spoke at the 2010 End-of-Year Dinner hosted by the Association of British University Graduates, which took place on December 8 at the Innove restaurant. The topic of his presentation was "Education in Uruguay Today: A Springboard to Prosperity or an Obstacle to Development?"

    The ORT basketball team has won 14 local and international intercollegiate tournaments; however, the University Basketball League trophy had eluded them. This year, the effort that began with the first practices in the heat of February culminated in the championship title. Despite the significance of this achievement, the team, the coaching staff, and the Sports Coordination remain humble and are already preparing to face the challenge of defending their title in 2011.

    Video games aren't just for kids. This is demonstrated by Gonzalo Frasca, a 38-year-old professor of video games at the School of Communication and Design who holds a Ph.D. in the field from the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He has designed children's video games for companies such as Cartoon Network, Disney, and Warner Bros. He has also produced video games based on current events.

    On Tuesday, December 14, the School of Communication and Design held a theater performance at the El Galpón Theater. The faculty’s theater group, directed by Tabaré Rivero, presented “Moscas… la luz, la mierda y el veneno.” The play, written by José Pagano, won an award at the 2009 Movida Joven festival organized by the Municipality of Montevideo and was declared of ministerial interest by the Ministry of Social Development.

    In December, the annual Teaching Excellence Awards ceremonies organized by the schools were held. These awards aim to recognize the quality of teaching by faculty members who regularly teach courses and the learning achievements of their students. The award recipients embody the values, practices, and dedication to teaching that the university recognizes as those that every professor in our academic community should strive for. At each ceremony, the respective dean provided a review of the year and introduced the award-winning faculty members from their school.

    On Wednesday, December 15, the ORT Pocitos Auditorium hosted the graduation ceremony for the graduate programs of the School of Business and Social Sciences. The ceremony was attended by graduates of the MBA program, the Diploma in Human Resources, the Master’s in Human Resources Management, the Diploma in Finance, the Diploma in Marketing Management, the Diploma in Taxation, and the Diploma in Agribusiness.

    On Thursday, December 9, the conference "Web Application Security: Understanding the Enemy’s Weapons," led by Mateo Martínez, Information Security Manager at Tata Consultancy Services Argentina; Mauricio Campiglia, security and networking specialist at IBM Uruguay and professor of Computer Security at the university; and Cristian Borghello, Director of the security website www.segu-info.com.ar. The event was organized by the OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) Chapter of Uruguay and the School of Technology at the Faculty of Engineering.
