    inMind, a company that emerged from the pre-incubator program at the ORT University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and is led by entrepreneurs Julio Ruiz and Omar Saadoun—both graduates of the Systems Engineering program—participated in the international event organized by the IAMCP (International Association of Microsoft Certified Partners), which took place in São Paulo, Brazil, from May 25 to 28. InMind has been a member of this association since 2008, alongside companies such as Infocorp, Urudata, and Intermedia.

    On Thursday, May 27, a lecture titled "Crime and Violence Journalism: Drug Trafficking on the U.S.-Mexico Border" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The lecture was presented by Alfredo Corchado, Chief of the Mexico Bureau at The Dallas Morning News.

    Five startups that have undergone pre-incubation at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) are finalists in the “Emprendedores en la Mira 2010” competition, organized by Fondo Emprender, JCI Uruguay, and AJE Uruguay. The competition seeks to identify startups with dynamic potential that add value, are innovative in some aspect of their business or product, have growth potential, and target the international market.

    Félix Abadi, Ph.D., Professor of Taxation in the School of Management and Social Sciences, served as a speaker at the Technical Conference organized by the Uruguayan Association of Accountants, Economists, and Administrators. He presented on the national paper submitted to the “28th Inter-American Accounting Conference,” which took place from October 25 to 28, 2009, in Mexico. This conference was held on May 27 at the Convention Center of the Torre de los Profesionales.

    On Tuesday, May 25, the lecture "The Mood: Developing the Concept from Trend to Product" was held in the Centro Auditorium, presented by Orazio Lo Presti, an architect and professor at Polimoda, International Institute - Fashion Design & Marketing in Italy. The event was aimed at students, graduates, and faculty members of the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design.

    On Tuesday, May 18, the launch of the "Intel Latin America Challenge" took place at the ORT Centro Auditorium, led by Federico Marque (Intel), Juan Pablo Silveira (TouchIT), Sarah Goldberg, M.Eng. (ANII), and Enrique Topolansky, B.A. (ORT University). The event was organized by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ORT University.

    On May 14, the "La Academia" Creativity Workshop Series kicked off, organized by the School of Communication and Design and the Uruguayan Advertising Circle. Fourteen advertising professionals from leading agencies are leading a series of workshops aimed at helping each participant develop a portfolio of creative work. Participants in this activity include students from ORT University and members of the Uruguayan Advertising Circle. All workshops take place in the Communication Auditorium (1185 Uruguay Ave.) at 1:00 p.m.

The event was organized by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The lecture was given by Architect Pablo Azqueta, Director of Research Projects at the Center for the Promotion of Architectural Research within the School of Architecture, Planning, and Design at the National University of Rosario, Argentina.

    On May 14, the official launch of the Camino TICs project took place at the ORT Pocitos Auditorium.  Speakers included Ambassador Geoffrey Barrett, Head of the European Union Delegation to Uruguay and Paraguay; Bruno Spremolla, Governor of Rotary International District 4970 in Uruguay; Álvaro Lamé, President of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI); and Mario Fernández, Dean of the School of Engineering.

    On Friday, May 21, the lecture "The World Between Analog and Digital" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The lecture was presented by Fadi Hayeck, a demonstrator for the Website Payments Pro (WPP) division of Solid State Logic, a British company dedicated to inventing, designing, and manufacturing sound processing technology.

    As part of the academic cooperation agreement between ORT University and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), the School of Communication and Design is offering a series of professional development workshops in animation, which began on May 3. The purpose of this series is to support the growth of the animation and video game industry in Uruguay. The first workshop is led by George Scribner, a professor at CalArts and animator for the past 25 years.
