June 30, 2010CW Contenidos, a company specializing in website updates, won second prize in the "Emprendedores en la Mira" competition, which annually recognizes the best startups and business plans in Uruguay. Its director is Sebastián Haro, a graduate with a degree in Journalism and Communication, who received the award from the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Fernando Lorenzo, at a ceremony held on June 24 at the Uruguay Fomenta offices.

June 24, 2010The book *No voy en tren. Uruguay and the Prospects for an FTA with the United States (2000–2010)* by Dr. Roberto Porzecanski, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Program in International Studies, was presented on June 8 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by historian Gerardo Caetano and political scientist Adolfo Garcé. The study, published by Random House Mondadori in the Debate series, "is a political-economic analysis of why two presidents from two different parties (Dr. Jorge Batlle and Dr. Tabaré Vázquez) attempted—unsuccessfully—to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States," stated the author.

June 21, 2010Fabián Kozynski, a telecommunications engineering student, received a one-year research initiation grant from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) to work on the optimization of peer-to-peer networks, the topic of his senior thesis. Meanwhile, Fernanda Laguarda, an architecture student, received a research initiation grant for her project “Laminated Eucalyptus grandis wood beams: mechanical characterization and prediction of their flexural behavior.”

June 19, 2010Even though technology focused on communications currently dominates the field, the manufacturing and use of robots continues unabated. The Robotics Applied to Secondary Education (RAES) initiative, launched in 2008 by the School of Engineering, engages and inspires high school students. One of the team members working for RAES is electronics engineer Daniel Goldenberg, a 27-year-old who is responsible for the creation, organization, and execution of the project, which has already held two editions. The graduate is a member of the faculty’s Department of Analog Electronics.

June 14, 2010On June 8, a group of 23 students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design program, along with the instructors for the Accessory Design course—Walter Lema, Andrea Montedónico, and Mariana Muzi—visited the new PielColor South America Innovation Center. They were welcomed by the General Manager, Ms. Rosa Fité, and her technical team, who gave a digital presentation on the entire leather processing cycle, followed by a tour of the showroom to view the new collection of leathers with PielColor finishes for the upcoming 2011/2012 season.

June 14, 2010Luisa Pereira Hors, an engineer with a degree in Systems Engineering and an instructor in Interfaces within that program, is participating in the ITP Summer Camp (Interactive Telecommunications programme). This is a graduate program at New York University that is internationally recognized for its contribution of new ideas and talented individuals to the professional world of multimedia and interactivity. The program lasts one month and takes place throughout June.

The lecture was aimed at students enrolled in the "Communication in Organizations" course as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, as well as students in the Corporate Communication and Public Relations Analyst program and the Public Relations and Event Management Technician program.
