    On July 26, 2012, a celebration was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the Diploma in Human Resources, with the participation of faculty members from the graduate programs in human resources at the School of Administration and Social Sciences. In attendance were Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, Dean of the faculty; Jaime Damiani, Academic Secretary; Ximena Fernández, Coordinator of Human Resources Programs; and Carlos Zapater, Course Coordinator at the School of Graduate and Executive Studies. The Dean spoke, referring to the history of this graduate program, and Dr. Pablo Fernández, Director of Marketing Tech, gave a presentation on the importance of the internal customer.

    On July 26, 2012, the event “Caleidoscóptico: Academic Event of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design” took place at Club Uruguay. It consisted of the final presentation by students in the Fashion Event Design and Production course, taught by professors Normando Martin and Silvia Díaz. The event was organized by the Fashion Design Academic Coordination Office.

    Dr. Lorena Betancor has been selected to serve on the editorial board of the peer-reviewed journal *ISRN Biotechnology*, published by the International Scholarly Research Network. The journal publishes original articles and reviews in the field of biotechnology.

    On July 30, 2012, the conference "Creation of an e-Portfolio System for the New Digital Era" was held at ORT Centro, presented by Dr. Paul Kim, Chief Technology Officer and Assistant Dean at the Stanford University School of Education. The speaker introduced a new approach to the design of e-portfolio systems (electronic or digital portfolios). The event was organized by the Institute of Education.

    The projects pre-incubated by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE)—Lock IT, by entrepreneurs Mariana Morales, Gastón Arbeletche, and Álvaro Muhlethaler, students in the Systems Engineering program, and Fashionbox Store, by Cecilia Mendlowicz and Margot Baridon, students in the Bachelor’s in Management and Administration program—were awarded prizes in the “Emprendedores en la Mira” competition organized by Red Emprender. Meanwhile, Good Life, by Karen Mitelman, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Communication, received a special mention. The competition aims to support the development of new ventures in Uruguay. The awards ceremony took place on July 5, 2012, at the El Galpón Theater and was attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining, Roberto Kreimerman.

The company presented its 2012 Young Talent Program, which is aimed at recruiting technical professionals in the fields of computer science and electronics.

    On July 19, 2012, ORT Pocitos hosted the book launch for “Being Jewish Today: 55 Topics for the Believer, the Skeptic, the Atheist, the Agnostic, the Thinker, the Curious, the Interested, the Disinterested, the Modern, and the Postmodern” by Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov, a rabbi with United Lubavitcher Yeshivoth (Brooklyn, New York), who compiled some of his columns published in the Semanario Hebreo. In addition to the author, Prof. Rodolfo Fattoruso, a columnist for the Búsqueda Weekly and Radio Sarandí, and Ana Jerozolimski, Editor-in-Chief of the Semanario Hebreo, spoke at the event. The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.

    On July 11, 2012, the conference “How Science and Technology Can Fuel the Fire of Innovation” was held at ORT Centro, presented by Dr. E. William Colglazier, Science and Technology Adviser to the U.S. Department of State since 2011. This office provides scientific and technical expertise and advice for the development of the country’s foreign policy. This event was organized by the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay in collaboration with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the university’s Office of Academic Development.

    On July 31, 2012, Eduardo Hipogrosso, Dean of the School of Communication and Design, will deliver a lecture titled “Designer Skills in Digital Environments” as part of the “Third Latin American Congress on Design Education,” organized by the University of Palermo (Buenos Aires). The event will take place from July 30 to August 1.
