Sept. 29, 2009The paper “A connection level model for 802.11 cells” by Andrés Ferragut, a research assistant in the MATE Group (Applied Mathematics for Telecommunications) at the School of Engineering, and Dr. Fernando Paganini, Professor of Telecommunications Theory, was selected as one of the two best papers at the LANC 2009 (Latin American Networking Conference), receiving the ACM SIGCOMM (Special Interest Group on Data Communications) award.

Sept. 23, 2009On September 29 and 30, a series of lectures and the presentation of the latest book by Marcos Gorbán—an Argentine producer, journalist, writer, and professor—took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. Gorbán is a producer for Telefé of *Gran Hermano*, *Operación Triunfo*, and *Talento Argentino* (winner of the 2009 Martín Fierro Award in the Best Reality Show category).

Sept. 22, 2009Two publications by Prof. Leonardo Haberkorn, Academic Coordinator of Journalism at the School of Communication and Design, were nominated for the 2009 Bartolomé Hidalgo Awards, presented by the Uruguayan Book Chamber to the year’s best literary works. “Questions and Answers About Animals in Uruguay” was one of three nominees in the Children’s Picture Book category, and “Tupamaro Stories” was nominated in the Political-Journalistic Essay category.

Sept. 21, 2009Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy in the School of Administration and Social Sciences and Coordinator of the GTD-PREAL-ORT project, participated on September 7 and 8 in the Second Meeting of the International Academic Working Group on the Comprehensive Reform of Basic Education in Mexico. The meeting was attended by prestigious specialists in the field of education from Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Spain, and Mexico.

Sept. 14, 2009On September 16, the lecture "Animación Animalada" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. It was presented by Roque Papa, director of Animalada, a company that develops and produces high-impact animated characters for commercials. During the event, he shared the story of Animalada and its characters, explaining how they are created and developed from artistic, technical, and commercial perspectives.

Sept. 10, 2009Dvelop, a company founded by Systems Engineering graduates Paula Gallotti, Ignacio Fonseca, Agustín Napoleone, and Joaquín Álvarez, was selected by Endeavor to join its network through the Promesas program. The selection process involved several interviews with specialized mentors and a final panel presentation. The company is a graduate of CET (Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at the School of Engineering) and is incubated at Ingenio.

Sept. 3, 2009On September 22, the lecture "Biotechnology and Novel Foods" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Engineering, presented by Dr. Gianfranco Grompone, Head of the Valorization Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Montevideo; Dr. Mary Lopretti, Head of the Department of Bioprocesses and Biotechnology at LATU; and Dr. Caterina Rufo, Head of the Food Division at the Technology Hub of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of the Republic. This lecture is part of a series of biotechnology talks, held in conjunction with the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology. TCC Digital’s Asuntos Públicos program aired this talk on October 6 at 9:00 p.m.
