From October 27 to 29, the Faculty of Architecture hosted the "Solar Thermal Energy Seminar," led by Mechanical Engineer Carlos Felipe Da Cunha Farias, Executive Director of ABRAVA – Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation, and Heating. In addition, on Friday, October 30, Mr. Da Cunha delivered the lecture “Heating Water with the Sun: When and How to Do It?”, which was free and open to the public.

It was led by Odair Tabárez, an instructor in the school’s Sound Design Technician program. The event was organized by the Academic Sound Coordination Office.

Oct. 26, 2009The article "Risk and Culture: Reflections for Executives in Latin America" by Manuel Pereyra Terra, Academic Coordinator of the Master's Program in Financial Management and the Diploma in Finance, was published in the online edition of América Economía magazine on October 15.

Oct. 19, 2009From October 20 to November 3, the lobby of the School of Architecture (2633 España Blvd.) will host an exhibition of projects created as part of the "Construction Management 1" course in the Architecture program, titled "Game and Reality," led by Professor Walter Graiño, Architect. The professor assigned the task of creating a simulation model for construction project management. The students, organized into teams, developed a playful model applied to construction project management based on strategy games.

Oct. 19, 2009The School of Engineering published Research Paper No. 7,“Extended UML Statecharts and Product Lines,”by Carlos Luna and Prof. Ariel González, and Research Paper No. 8,“Experiment with a type-theoretic approach to the verification of model transformations,” by Prof. Daniel Calegari, Carlos Luna, Dr. Nora Szasz, and Dr. Álvaro Tasistro.

Oct. 19, 2009Pro Internacional, a web design firm founded by Magdalena Rodríguez, a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and Rosario Monteverde, a graduate with a degree in Systems Engineering, won the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards. The awards ceremony took place during the international forum The Women's Forum for the Economy and Society, held from October 15 to 17 in Deauville, France. The organization presented five awards, one per region (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America). This is the first time a Uruguayan company has participated in this event.

The event was held as part of the launch of the International Program on Trends in Communication and Marketing, which will begin in May 2010.

Oct. 15, 2009On Thursday, October 15 and 22, the seminar "Bioclimatic Architecture for Energy Efficiency" was held at the School of Architecture. The event was organized by the School of Architecture with support from Energy Efficiency, Mesa Solar, and the National Association of Micro and Small Businesses (ANMYPE).

Oct. 15, 2009As part of the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology, a talk titled “Biotechnology and Its Applications” was held on October 20 at the ORT Centro Auditorium, featuring panelists Dr. Matilde Soubes, Dr. Rafael Leaniz, and Engineer Pedro Lage. The goal of these biotechnology talks is to help foster a proper understanding of biotechnology in Uruguay, as well as to share information about some of the new technologies and their applications. On Friday, October 30, at 9:00 p.m., TCC Digital’s “Asuntos Públicos” channel will broadcast this talk.

Oct. 8, 2009On October 13, the lecture "Relations with Social Media" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design, presented by Rubek Orlando, Director of the Press Office at the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay. The event, organized by the Academic Coordination Office for Communication, was aimed at students and graduates of the Corporate Communication and Public Relations Analyst program and the Public Relations and Event Planning Technician program.

Oct. 5, 2009On October 15, the lecture "The Treaty of Lisbon in Light of the Irish Referendum Result" was held in the auditorium of the School of Management and Social Sciences. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Joaquín Roy, Jean Monnet Professor and Director of the European Union Center at the University of Miami. The event is part of a series of lectures and events organized by the School’s Department of International Studies.

Oct. 5, 2009The Audiovisual Department of the School of Communication and Design is organizing the open film series “Film Analysis,” led by Professor Pablo Ferré, which will take place from October 7 to December 9 and is aimed at university students. The main objective of the series is to broaden students’ understanding of cinema and promote film appreciation through discussion and reflection. The films are screened in their entirety, preceded by a brief introductory overview. Following each film, an analytical discussion moderated by the professor takes place.

The event was organized by the Ferrere Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Oct. 1, 2009On October 26 and 27, the third edition of the "FIA'09" International Animation Festival, organized by the school's Animation Department, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. Students, professionals, and institutions from more than 30 countries participated, submitting animated shorts of any genre or theme. The call for entries was open to students and graduates of animation schools, animation production companies, advertising agencies, and independent animators.
